Jodi and Ruby arrested – the internet has exploded following the arrest of Ruby Franke of 8 Passengers fame and her partner, Jodi Hildebrandt.

The arrest is on charges of aggravated child abuse.

This is due to one of Ruby’s children escaping her home to a neighbor’s home who then contacted police on noticing signs of abuse and neglect on the kid.

Ruby Franke, the YouTube vlogger behind the widely popular but now-defunct “8 Passengers” channel that documented her family’s daily interactions, along with her current business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, have been arrested for alleged aggravated child abuse.

And yes, whilst many are searching, Ruby Franke mug shot has yet to be released but we have the next best thing!

Police were called after one of Ruby Franke’s children climbed out of a window of an Ivins, Utah residence owned by Hildebrandt and ran to a neighbor’s home, according to court documents.

The neighbor observed duct tape on the child’s wrists and ankles and contacted law enforcement, police said.

Police arrested Ruby Franke and Jodi for perpetrating the abuse on the kids.

The 12-year-old who escaped was found to be severely malnourished and suffering from multiple wounds.

He has been hospitalized at St. George Regional Hospital due to “deep lacerations from being tied up with rope and malnourishment.”

Police said they found a second child in the home owned by Jodi and shared with Ruby and her kids.

The 2nd child, a 10-year-old girl initially refused care but eventually agreed.

She was treated at an area hospital, where medical professionals determined she was also suffering from malnutrition, according to police.

Jodi Hildebrandt is the creator of the mental health company “Connexions Classroom,” which lists Ruby Franke as a business partner and “certified mental fitness trainer.”

Just a couple of days ago, Ruby Franke appeared in a YouTube video that was filmed in the basement of the home owned by Jodi.

Police officers say that they believe Ruby Franke is aware of the alleged abuse and neglect her children were suffering at the hands of Jodi.

Police also determined that Jodi Hildebrandt was in the direct care of the children and knew of the abuse.

Hildebrandt allegedly made statements to police that the children should “never be allowed around any other kids,” adding to law enforcement’s opinion that she was aware of the abuse.

Ruby Franke and Jodi can be seen in videos promoting family values.

Hildebrandt’s mission, according to her website, is to “invite and encourage healing and facilitate personal growth through impeccable honesty, rigorous personal responsibility and vulnerable humility.”

Fresh charges

In the days following their August 30th arrest, Jodi and Ruby were hit with additional charges amounting to four additional counts of aggravated child abuse.

A press release from the Washington County Attorney’s Office claimed that “each defendant is accused of causing or permitting serious physical injury to the victims in three different ways: (1) a combination of multiple physical injuries or torture, (2) starvation or malnutrition that jeopardizes life, and (3) causing severe emotional harm.”

Despite the constant controversies, the show continued to rake in ridiculous numbers until the channel was pulled by YouTube earlier this year.

Back to Shari Franke, she has always called out her parents since becoming an adult hence making her estranged from the family.

In Youtube appearances on several shows, Shari Franke has revealed she’s no longer speaking to her parents. She said once she moved out of her home to attend college she began realizing her parent’s methods were too extreme.

Following the arrest of Ruby Franke and Jodi, Shari jumped online to celebrate.

YouTube took down the channel earlier this year amidst controversy over the parenting style of the couple.

“8 Passengers” has been cited by activists as just one of many examples of family vlogging channels that have left children unprotected and easily exploitable. In response, Illinois recently passed a law meant specifically to introduce protections for minors appearing on their parents’ monetized social media.

After the cancellation of 8 Passengers, Ruby Franke went into business with her partner Jodi Hildebrandt, tagging themselves as ‘moms of truth’.

Ruby and Jodi have a Youtube channel for parent advice and counseling known as ConneXions.

Ruby and Jodi were arrested Wednesday, August 30th 2023 around 9:33pm.

Both were charged with two counts of second-degree aggravated child abuse, intentional or unknowing.

Ruby Franke is being held without bail at the Washington County Jail.

Ruby Franke was married to Kevin Franke with whom she welcomed six children and for a longtime, ran their YouTube channel 8 passengers.

Kevin and Ruby Franke launched their family YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, in early 2015 to chronicle the lives of the parents and their six children: Shari, Chad, Abby, Julie, Russell and Eve.

The channel had nearly 2.3 million subscribers.

As many family channels on YouTube do, 8 Passengers focused on Ruby and Kevin Franke’s parenting style, the children’s upbringing and discipline as the kids grew up in Utah.

The parents, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also shared their children’s home schooling.

Although the Frankes grew a sizable following, the family became the subject of harsh criticisms in recent years, including allegations of child abuse.

Local child protective services were reportedly called in June 2020 after a Change.org petition called on the family to be investigated.

The petition cited an example from a now-deleted video that showed then-15-year-old Chad sharing that he’d slept on a bean bag for seven months as a punishment for behavioral issues.

At the time, Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services visited the Franke household but closed the case due to unsupported claims.

Following the arrest of his wife Ruby Franke and her business partner, Jodi, Kevin refused to give comment when contacted by NBC News, referring the publication to his attorney, Randy Kester, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
