News emerged early Saturday confirming that authorities arrested Don Steven McDougal late Friday.

According to Breitbart, Polk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested Don Steven McDougal Friday night on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked him into the Polk County Jail at 11:50 p.m. on Friday.

His charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — a 2nd Degree Felony in Texas, could land him a sentence of up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

However, the charge is said to be unrelated to the disappearance of Audrii Cunningham.

In the latest updates, Steven McDougal has been named an official person of interest in the case.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Saturday morning also identified what they’re calling a vehicle of interest in the search for Audrii – a dark blue Chevrolet Suburban belonging to Don Steven McDougal.

Police located “a small backpack that likely belonged to a child” near the Lake Livingston Dam, according to a statement.

Audrii was carrying a bright red “Hello Kitty” backpack at the time of her disappearance, but police did not specify anything further about whether that matches the backpack they recovered.

Her cause of death is “homicidal violence” and her manner of death has been ruled a homicide, Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences tells PEOPLE.

Officials at the institute did not comment when asked about other potential injuries.

“Not sure if he lives with the dad (Josh) as a roommate or what. Mom (Cassie) isn’t involved in the search due to pressure from Josh because of his suspicions of Cassie’s involvement. Police have been to Cassie’s house,”

As mentioned earlier, one social media user stated categorically that Don Steven McDougal tried r#ping her when she was 10.

Another said he sent his pic of his unmentionables to another kid online.

“Steven McDougal is not someone I’d want around my little girl! This man tried to r#pae me when I was 10 years old. He was a brother of my parents friends,” one Carissa Gates blew the alarm.

One user replied: “OMG! Seethis is why I don’t let anyone live with me. Beacause I don’t trust a soul around my kids. I pray that little girl is okay. People like that should not be around kids,”

Carissa replied: “And he got away with it. Back in 2014 he got caught sending a little girl on Facebook a picture of his tiny little thang,”
