Jenn Soto of Kissimmee, Florida, is the mother of murdered teen Madeline Soto.

At a 1 p.m. press conference on Friday, Orange County Sheriff John Mina delivered updates on Madeline Soto’s disappearance and murder.

Sheriff Mina said detectives believe her mom’s boyfriend, Stephan Sterns, killed Madeline in Kissimmee and never took her to school.

Madeline’s body was found around 4:30 p.m. by Osceola County Sheriff’s Office search teams in a wooded area off Hickory Tree Road, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in an update.

“Madeline’s family has been notified. We have no additional information to release at this time. Kissimmee PD is the lead agency in this homicide investigation. That work continues,” the sheriff’s office said.

It is believed Madeline was killed in Kissimmee, where her family lived in an apartment, and that Sterns moved her body in the early morning hours Monday, Mina said.

“We have evidence that shows Stephen Stern’s returning to the complex and Madeline was visible in that vehicle. We believe she was already dead at that time,” the sheriff said.

Video evidence recovered by authorities showed Sterns discarding items in a dumpster at the Kissimmee apartment complex at 7:35 a.m. on Monday February 26.

Detectives later recovered Madeline’s backpack and her school-issued laptop from the dumpster.

Detectives informed Madeline’s mother Jenn Soto about her suspected death Thursday night. 

13-year-old Madeline had been missing since Monday, February 26th.

Madeline ‘Maddie’ Soto was last seen on Monday, one day after she and her family celebrated her 13th birthday.

According to Maddie’s mother, Jenn Soto, surveillance video shows Maddie hanging out in a church parking lot on February 26 after being dropped off for school, but she never made it inside.

Speaking to Fox 35 Orlando, Jenn Soto said she wants her daughter back home safe no matter the condition she’s in.

“I’m trying to hope for the best, but I’m scared for her,” said Jenn Soto.

“I want her to be okay; I want her to be safe… I don’t want her to come back harmed. I just want her back – whatever that means, I just want her back.” she said.

Jenn Soto said her daughter has never run away before.

She said that Maddie had forgotten her cell phone at home the morning of her disappearance but that was normal.

Sheriff’s deputies used K9s and a piece of Maddie’s clothing to try to track her scent near Town Loop Boulevard.

More than 50 members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office‘s emergency response team are conducting searches in various areas including Osprey Park near Hunter’s Creek as detectives continue to canvas, conduct interviews and follow any possible leads.

Madeline Soto was last seen by the boyfriend of Jenn Soto, Stephan Sterns, who had dropped her off in the area of Hunters Creek Middle School, which is where she goes to school.

Maddie is 5’1 and weighs around 110 pounds.

She was last seen wearing a green jacket, black shorts, and white Crocs. She has a mole on the left side of her nose and the right side of her chin.

Jenn Soto is on Facebook as Jenn Lissette, which appears to be her maiden name.

She has shared numerous posts about her daughter’s disappearance, hoping for a miracle and her safe return.

“Missing Child! Madeline Sophia Soto. Age 13 – Blonde hair – Blue eyes – 5”1’. Last seen walking to Hunters creek middle school on town loop Blvd around 8:45am. (Hunters creek, Orlando FL 32837),” Jenn Soto shared in a Facebook post about her missing Hunters Creek daughter, her first post on the platform in 3 years.

“Was wearing a dark green hoodie, black shorts and white crocs with a black backpack with gray hibiscus flowers on it.

“Please contact me if you have any information! Jenn Soto (718) 938-1553. Please share this if you can,”

Other posts contained the same urgent message with captions such as “Please help me find my daughter! Any information helps,” and “Please spread the word!”

Madeline Soto’s mother’s boyfriend, Stephan Sterns arrested

Jenn Soto’s boyfriend, Stephan Sterns, 37, was arrested by authorities Wednesday after disturbing images where found on his phone.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina announced late Wednesday that Sterns was arrested on charges of s*xual battery and possession of child s*xual abuse material.

“Through the work of our Digital Forensics Unit earlier [Wednesday], detectives discovered images and videos that were criminal, and s.*xual in nature,” the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives learned the alleged crimes were committed at the family home in Kissimmee.

The phone’s data showed that Sterns allegedly attempted to delete evidence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sterns is considered a prime suspect in Soto’s disappearance, deputies said.

“Stephan Sterns had an opportunity tonight to come clean with detectives and help lead them to information about Maddie’s disappearance,” Mina said in a statement.

“Her loved ones deserve answers and OCSO and the Kissimmee Police will not stop until we find Maddie.”

His experience, according to LinkedIn, consists of 2 years as a Permit Coordinator with Smart Build Capital in Orlando and 3 years as a Real Estate Agent with Home Clicks Realty.

He has been named as the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeline Soto, who is the daughter of Jenn Soto, his current girlfriend.

Hunters Creek

Hunter’s Creek is a master planned, unincorporated community and census-designated place in Orange County, Florida, United States.

It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 14,321 at the 2010 census.

It has grown up around a large planned community named Hunter’s Creek, though the CDP name given by the United States Census Bureau lacks the apostrophe.

Genstar Development Company based out of Canada owned a massive tract of land in south Orange County Florida totaling up to 3,840 acres.
