Ryley Young is a Phoenix, Arizona teen who died after being involved in a car crash February 25th.

Two teenagers who were driving in Phoenix crashed their car into a tree around 1:30am Sunday near 43rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road.

Officers found Ryley Young, 16 years old, dead whilst another teen was found in critical condition.

Currently, his status remains unclear.

A young, Phoenix, Arizona teen Ryley Young is dead and a teenage friend in critical condition after a car crash.

The duo were driving early Sunday morning when they lost control and rammed into a tree.

The accident occured in Phoenix around 1:30am Sunday near 43rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road.

Police were called to the area following the crash where they found one teen dead and another in critical condition.

“When officers arrived, they located two teenagers in the vehicle, both were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. The teenage passenger did not survive their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver remains in the hospital and is listed in critical condition,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Rob Scherer said.

Police say it appears the teens crashed after losing control and hitting a curb, causing the car to roll until it hit a tree.

The passenger, Ryley Young died whilst the driver remains in critical condition.

So who was Ryley Young?

He was a 16-year-old High School student from Glendale Arizona.

Ryley Young was a baseball prospect, a sophomore who played at Sandra O’Day Connor High School.

His family and friends held a memorial for him near the scene of the crash with many leaving flowers, candles and especially baseball memorabilia in honor of Young.

“He was amazing, he was talented, he was kind, he was loving, smart,” Young’s aunt, Susie Godines, said. “He just was everything to us.”

Godines said Young excelled at everything he did, especially baseball.

“Winning championships, being on all-star teams, travel teams, I mean, you name it,” Godines said.

She added: “My whole world revolved around him,”

A friend of Ryley Young, Kane Garcia, sai:. “I know we weren’t blood but our friendship was so strong that he was a brother to us,”

“He’s always the positive,” Ashton Griffith, another one of Young’s friends, said. He’s always the hype man. He’s always keeping it rolling.”

Godines said Young’s life was one taken far too soon.

“We really had such high hopes and dreams for him,” Godines said. “He had dreams.”

As mentioned, baseball was a big part of Ryley Young’s life.

According to perfectgame.org, he had a bright future in baseball until the accident took him away.

He was described as such: “Ryley Young is a 2026 SS/RHP, C, 2B, OF, UT with a 5-8 140 lb. frame from Glendale, AZ who attends Sandra Day O’Connor.

“Compact, wiry build with good trait in the frame. Ran a 7.95 in the sixty-yard dash. Infielder, sound actions for age. Hands and feet remain in sync. Developing arm strength across as he matures.

“Right-handed pitcher, higher three-quarter slot with short stride length. Longer arm action. Fastball and curveball can develop as two solid offerings. Switch hitter, even base and leg lift. Some looser hands from both sides, clean extension out front in the finish. Lots to like in the swing and can develop as he adds strength. Very good student,”

A day before the accident that killed Young, another teenager died in a Phoenix car crash which left two others injured.

The crash happened near 40th Street and Baseline Road around 3 p.m. Phoenix Fire says a boy and woman were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Another car involved caught fire and firefighters say a person’s body was found inside the car once the flames were put out. That person is identified as Talha Abdel-Rahman, 16.

“The scene has been turned over to Phoenix PD for the investigation,” Phoenix Fire said.
