Who is Kailee, Hazelwood East High School Student Hospitalized After Maurnice Declue Attack?

A Hazelwood East High School student identified simply as Kailee has been left is in critical condition after being attacked by one Maurnice Declue.

A fight broke out Friday near the school’s premises involving a group of students that left one student, Kailee, hospitalized.

A video of the fight showed Kailee of Hazelwood East High School having her head slammed into concrete repeatedly by another female student, identified as Declue.

Kailee was rushed to the hospital following the attack and remains in critical condition with a skull fracture, frontal lobe damage, major brain bleeding and swelling.

St Louis County Police announced a 15-year-old girl, presumably Declue, has been arrested and is being held on assault charges.

The Real STL News which reports on happenings in and around the St Louis area shared video of the fight on social media, writing: “We’re sadden to inform the community about a fight that occurred yesterday evening with a group of students from Hazelwood East.

“An altercation between two parties turns violent after the victim who has been identified as Kailee suffered a serious head injury . According to several sources the fight took place on the street Claudine near Hazelwood East High School.

“In the disturbing video you can see Kailee and another student having a fight when Kailee head was slammed into the ground three times. Quickly after she sustained a brutal head injuries she began to have a seizure.

“The official reports regarding this unfortunate incident hasn’t been released. We don’t know the cause of the fight but it could’ve been avoided. Please parents talk to children and understand that the youth are facing demons we never had to,”

An update from X, posted by user Manuel De Almeida, said Kailee has been placed in a medical-induced coma due to the traumatic head injuries she suffered in the Hazelwood East High School fight.

The video spread like wildfire and gathered heated reactions on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and many other platforms.

“One of the saddest things I’ve seen. I hate her parents have to see this,” a comment on Facebook under the Real STL News’ post read.

Another said: “Kid or not lock this person up they need to understand there are definitely consequences to your actions stop coddling it just does nothing for anyone,”

A 3rd commenter appeared to defend Declue: “I’m sorry this young girl is fighting for her life but,I have watched this video 10x & the girl swung first on the black girl. Second I keep reading she was forced to fight, that’s not what I see. In my eyes that was self defense. Young girl swung first. If anybody should be charged it is the parent that was on site to let this go down. I remember when I was a young teenager and fought you not even thinking & if you are it’s about don’t let them get you on the ground. Again lm sorry this happened to her & all prayers for recovery,”

On X, even the World’s Richest man and owner of the platform, Elon Musk, jumped in, writing: “Her head was viciously smashed into the concrete several times. This is at minimum third degree (unintentional) murder,”

After a reply to his post said “If the races were reversed there’s no doubt the assailant would get life in prison”, Elon simply replied: “True”

The Hazelwood School District posted a statement on social media offering condolences to the victims and families.

“It is a tragedy anytime children are hurt,” the statement reads.

“Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children.

“The Hazelwood School District offers our sincerest condolences to everyone involved and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need.”

“We look forward to continuing to partner with our community for the sake of our children. Please be kind and respectful of the families involved during this difficult time and pledge to help work toward the betterment of our entire community,” the district said.

Hazelwood East High School is located at 11300 Dunn Road in Spanish Lake, Missouri.

It is one of three high schools in Hazelwood School District (HSD) in St. Louis County, Missouri, alongside Hazelwood Central High School and Hazelwood West High School.

Hazelwood East High School was established in 1974 with the classes of 1975 and 1976 attending split-class sessions in the existing Hazelwood High School building.

Spanish Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States.

The population was 18,413 at the 2020 census.

Spanish Lake, originally called Spanish Pond until the late nineteenth century, was named after the Spanish troops who stayed there while building a fortified post for Spain in 1768.
