A 16-year-old teen, Thomas Roy Stein, has been arrested as the prime suspect in the murder of Cape Coral teen, Kayla Rincon-Miller.

Rincon-Miller was shot and killed during a robbery whilst walking to a MacDonald’s with friends after watching a movie late Sunday in Lee County, Florida.

A group of teens tried robbing the girls and during the attempt, a gun went off with the bullet striking Kayla.

Thomas Roy Stein was arrested and booked for murder around 1:09 am Wednesday.

A significant police presence responded near Mariana Avenue late Tuesday night.

Thomas Roy Stein, 16, was arrested and booked into a juvenile detention facility off of Ortiz Ave. in Fort Myers.

His booking sheet cited a single charge of “Homicide (Murder While Engaged In Robbery)”

Roy Stein was released from custody at around 3:00 AM on Wednesday morning.

He appeared in court Wednesday and was given a 21-day detention, set to reappear in court on April 8th.

Cape Coral Police said Stein was not acting alone at the time of the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators said a silver Nissan Pathfinder, rented by Stein’s mother, was used during the robbery, so Rincon-Miller’s family believes Stein was the driver.

They hope he will be forthcoming regarding who was in the car with him.

A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed while walking with two friends in Cape Coral Sunday night, Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore said during a news conference Monday.

Kayla Rincon Miller and two friends were walking to McDonald’s on Del Prado Boulevard South after leaving the Coralwood 10 movie theater when a car pulled up and blinded them with the vehicle’s lights.

Several unknown suspects reportedly exited the vehicle and attempted to rob the three girls when one of the suspects fired a gun, shooting the victim, later identified as Kayla Rincon-Miller, in the chest.

Rincon-Miller was taken to a hospital, where she died.

“One of the girls told detectives a car pulled up and blinded them with their lights, and then suspects jumped out of the car and attempted to rob them,” Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore said.

“One of the individuals began to shoot and Ms. Rincon-Miller was struck in the chest. All 3 girls stated they did not know the shooter was.” Sizemore said.

According to her family, Kayla liked basketball, drawing and picking out the perfect pair of shoes to go with her outfit.
