Mechellea Williams, 28, a Chicago postal worker who was a mother of three was found shot to death in a car in Orland Park.
Police responded to the 170th block of Redbud Lane for reports of shots fired just after midnight Tuesday.
They found the body of Mechellea Williams, 28, in a car filled with bullet holes.

First responders performed life-saving measures but were unable to save Williams.
Williams was a dedicated letter carrier at the Fort Dearborn Post Office at 540 N. Dearborn St. in the River North community.
“That let me know right there, you know, she was strong, dedicated,” said mail carrier Shezelle Reed, “because this job is not for just anyone.”
Williams was a mother of three, according to Elise Foster, the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 11.
“No one wants to get that news… go out to the family,” Foster said.
“She’s just a great person. A young lady coming to work to, you know, make a living for her family, and she was just an excellent worker.”
She added: “Unfortunate, you know? Scary, you know? Just think about her children, you know? Who will raise them?”
As of Wednesday night, no arrests had been made in the shooting.
“It’s real tough, because we’re all out here just trying to seek some answers, and hopefully someone will speak up and come forward,” the victim’s cousin, Breanna Williams, said.
“It’s devastating, honestly. All of that is a mystery that we’re trying to solve.”
According to family members, Mechellea lived on Chicago’s Far South Side.
Why she ended up in Orland Park is among the unanswered questions. Her post office job at Dearborn and Ohio in Chicago did not include work in Orland Park.
“Everybody loved that girl,” Breanna said. “Everybody loved her, like she was the life of the party.”
The shooting happened at the Orland Ridge Towns and Villas complex in the southwest suburb and has left resident shook.
“It’s really terrifying honestly, because this community is really quiet,” neighborhood resident Aaron Johnson said.
Local officials sought to assuage fears of residents.
“Orland Park still remains a really, a very safe community,” Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau said.
“This is just a very rare occurrence, and it happened on the road. It didn’t happen in someone’s house, so we really don’t know.”
Orland Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States, with a small portion in Will County.
The village is a suburb of Chicago. Per the 2020 census, Orland Park had a population of 58,703.
Located 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Chicago, Orland Park is close to several interstate highways, with the I-80 east-west coast connector as its southern border.
The Metra commuter rail system links it to the Chicago Loop and from there to O’Hare and Midway airports.
Orland Park was first settled as “Orland” in 1834, with Henry Taylor being the area’s first settler.
Other original settlers include Ichabod and William Myrick, Jacob and Bernard Hostert, Thomas Cooper and John Humphrey.
The Hostert brothers built log cabins for their families, which became some of the first homes built in Orland Park.
In 1879 the railroad was extended to Orland Park, leading way for the towns first train station, “Sedgwick Station.”
This development took the town from an agrarian society to a commercial hub that provides shipping services to local farms.
The village was incorporated on May 31, 1892.
