2 Stewart Seldowitz Abused a Vendor in NYC for being Arab and Muslim

Seldowitz had been harassing a food cart operator near 83rd and 2nd Avenue in New York City for days, X users have claimed.

Among the remarks made in the video shot in Manhattan, Seldowitz asks the operator if he “r*ped [his] daughter”, called Islamic prophet Muhammad a “r*pist,” and added that the killing of around 4,000 Palestinian children in Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas conflict “wasn’t enough.

In the videos, Seldowitz is recorded saying vile things to a halal food vendor in NYC.

“The Mukhabarat (Egyptian intelligence) in Egypt will get your parents. Does your father like his fingernails?

“They’ll take them out one by one,” Stuart ranted to the food vendor who is just trying to make a living.

The vendor continuously tells him he doesn’t speak English to get him to leave but Seldowitz continues his harassment.

“Tell me why I should go? I’m standing here. I’m an American. It’s a free country. It’s not like Egypt,” Seldowitz responds.

He then tells the vendor to “smile for me” as he holds his phone up to take a camera, presumably to be sent to his friends in the Mukhabarat.

He “hen repeatedly asks, “Did you r.*.pe your daughter like Muhammad did? Muhammad, your prophet… He was a r#pist,”

He continues: “The holy Quran that some people use as a toilet. What do you think of that, people who used the Quran as a toilet? Does it bother you?” he asked, laughing.

He then attacked the vendor for not speaking English, claiming it makes his ignorant.

“That’s why you’re selling food in a food cart, because you’re ignorant. But you should learn English, it’ll help you when they deport you back to Egypt and the Mukhabarat wants to interview you.”

A second video shows Seldowitz holding up two buttons to the food cart’s windows, one says Israel on it; the other is hard to discern.

“It’s not my fault that you pray to a criminal,” Seldowitz says when the food cart employee opens the windows. The employee asks Seldowitz to leave “please,” but Seldowitz refuses.

“I’m going to put up big signs here that say ‘This guy believes in Hamas,’” Seldowitz says and accuses the vendor of not having a permit or visa.

When the vendor says he’s an American citizen, Seldowitz asks how he became a citizen and calls him a “terrorist.”

“You support killing little children. You’re a terrible person,” Seldowitz says.

The vendor responds, “You kill children, not me.”

Seldowitz says, “If we killed 4,000 Palestinian kids, you know what, it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough.”

3 The vendor abused by Stewart Seldowitz Jewish has been identified

The Arab vendor abused by Seldowitz has been identified as 24-year-old Mohammed Hussein who works with the Q Halal Cart Grill on the Upper East Side.

Hussein and his boss at the cart have also signalled their intention to sue Seldowitz for harassment and hate speech.

“We want to sue him for harassment and hate speech,” Hussein’s boss and cart owner, Islam Moustafa, said.

“I consider this hate-speech, not freedom of speech. Mohamed’s a little scared, he’s a little worried — especially after finding out this guy used to work for the government,” Moustafa said.

“How do you ask a little 24-year-old if he ever raped his daughter? He’s an ex-government official, he worked for the Obama administration, he’s not a nobody,” the cart’s owner added.

“How does an ex-government official speak about religion and hatred with that much hatred?

“A normal person wouldn’t do that, but a guy with power and ranking shouldn’t be talking like that to a 24-year-old who keeps begging him to walk away,” he queried.

4 Seldowitz has been arrested and charged by the NYPD

Meanwhile, Seldowitz was arrested Wednesday by the NYPD and was being held at the 19th Precinct on the Upper East Side.

He appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court Thursday and was officially charged with two counts of aggravated harassment and three counts of stalking, one under the city’s hate crimes law, one for intent to cause fear and one for doing so at the victim’s place of employment.

Seldowitz was also condemned by NYC Mayor Eric Adams and NY Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“Islamophobia is hate. Plain and simple,” Adams wrote on X. “This vile, disrespectful rhetoric has no home in our city. We reject it — and we’re glad to see we’re not alone.”

“This is hateful, disgusting and unacceptable,” Hochul added. “Vile rhetoric like this has no place in New York, and we condemn it in the strongest of terms.”

5 He is a longtime U.S diplomat who worked in the Obama administration

Seldowitz has held many positions in the U.S government covering decades.

He served as deputy director in the US State Department’s Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 to 2003.

Stuart Seldowitz was also Acting Director of the National Security Council South Asia Directorate from February 2009 to January 2011 under President Obama.

He has served as an agent for the State Department under five different presidents.

Tommy Vietor, host of popular liberal podcast Pod Save America and former spokesperson for Obama and the NSC, said of Seldowitz: “He was a state department employee for 30 years who got detailed to the NSC during the Obama administration, not a direct hire. But horribly embarrassing for the US government to be associated this guy in any way,”

6 His current employer Gotham Government Relations fired him

After the viral video of Stuart Seldowitz harassing an Arab vendor, his current employer Gotham Government Relations fired him.

“Gotham Government Relations has ended all affiliation with Stuart Seldowitz, an individual who hasn’t contributed to our work in years,” the company wrote in a post to X, with the same message also being shared atop the organization’s official website.

“The video of his actions is vile, racist, and beneath the dignity of the standards we practice at our firm.”

Northwestern Mutual, another company Seldowitz has listed as a current employer on his LinkedIn page – said on X earlier that they have no affiliation with him.

“We have confirmed this individual is not contracted by or affiliated with Northwestern Mutual,”

7 Stuart Seldowitz has Apologized (kinda) for his actions

Speaking to City & State Tuesday night, Seldowitz offered an apology.

“I regret the whole thing happened and I’m sorry…But you know, in the heat of the moment, I said things that probably I shouldn’t have said,” he proferred.

He added: “I did have an argument with a food vendor. It is quite possible that it’s me. I mean, I’ve not seen the video, but I believe it’s probably me,”

“If I had to do it all over again, I would not have raised the religious aspect,” he continued.

“I don’t think I’m an Islamophobic guy. I’ve spoken up for equal treatment of Muslims on numerous occasions with numerous different people,”

He also confirmed he argued with the vendor on numerous occassions and not just once.

“Yes, I went back because I pass that food cart regularly and I went back and had other arguments,” he explained.

When informed about being booted out of Gotham, he seethed.

“I had a high opinion of the people at Gotham up until I found out that they had issued this statement. I considered the people at Gotham to be friends, and I haven’t had a chance to speak to them, or to try to speak to them as to why they felt the need to issue this statement,” he said.

Meanwhile, the President of Gotham, David Schwartz, said that Seldowitz was never an employee and he’ll help the vendors should they take him to court.

“By the way, I’ll represent the food vendor pro bono if he wants to bring a lawsuit against Stuart Seldowitz. I’m absolutely outraged by this video,”
