Stuart Seldowitz was caught on camera hurling racist and bigoted abuse at a food vendor in New York city.
So who is Stuart Seldowitz?
Seldowitz was deputy director in the US State Department’s Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 to 2003 and worked in the Obama administration.
He served as Acting Director of the National Security Council South Asia Directorate from February 2009 to January 2011 under President Obama.
He also briefly worked as a journalist – for a period holding a position as an editor for Bloomberg News.
His other roles include being a strategist and a life insurance agent according to his now-deleted LinkedIn page.
Gotham Government Relations, a D.C.-based lobbying firm that Seldowitz was attached with, cut all ties with him following the viral video.
He served as foreign affairs chair for Gotham Government Relations, which announced his new role in a press release in November 2022.
On Tuesday afternoon, Gotham announced on Twitter that it had cut ties with Seldowitz.
“Gotham Government Relations has ended all affiliation with Stuart Seldowitz, an individual who hasn’t contributed to our work in years.
“The video of his actions is vile, racist, and beneath the dignity of the standards we practice at our firm,” the statement said.
His page has also been removed from the firm’s website.
Seldowitz’ bio on Gotham’s page had read, in part: “Stuart Seldowitz brings a distinguished career in federal and state government with interests in governmental, political and business fields.
“Mr Seldowitz comes to his work at Gotham government relations after a near thirty year career with the United States Department of State and New York State.
“Mr Seldowitz is a three-time winner of the State Department’s Superior Honor Award. He speaks fluent Spanish and is a graduate of George Washington University,” the bio concludes.
Stuart Seldowitz was also a senior consultant in humanitarian diplomacy for GDC Inc., a logistics company that services places impacted by war and natural disasters.
Following his implosion, the GDC issued a statement: ““I do not know the specific details of the event, and I and GDC’s team condemn such language,” GDC’s Chief Executive Officer Moti Kahana, an Israeli-American citizen, said.
He added; “Mr. Seldowitz has worked with us in the past and saved thousands of Muslim lives in Afghanistan and Syria. We will await further details,”
Meanwhile, Seldowitz was arrested Wednesday by the NYPD and was being held at the 19th Precinct on the Upper East Side.
Charges against him include aggravated harassment, hate crime and stalking.
Seldowitz appeared before Judge James G. Clynes in Manhattan Criminal Court Thursday alongside his attorney Scott Bookstein.
He was officially charged with two counts of aggravated harassment and three counts of stalking, one under the city’s hate crimes law, one for intent to cause fear and one for doing so at the victim’s place of employment.
Mohammed Hussein, 24, the victim, has also signalled his intention to sue Seldowitz for harassment and hate speech.
“Yes, of course,” Hussein said when asked if he wants to slap Seldowitz with a lawsuit.
“We want to sue him for harassment and hate speech,” his boss and cart owner, Islam Moustafa, added.
“I consider this hate speech, not freedom of speech. Mohamed’s a little scared, he’s a little worried — especially after finding out this guy used to work for the government,” Moustafa said.
“How do you ask a little 24-year-old if he ever r#ped his daughter? He’s an ex-government official, he worked for the Obama administration, he’s not a nobody,” the cart’s owner added.
“How does an ex-government official speak about religion and hatred with that much hatred? A normal person wouldn’t do that, but a guy with power and ranking shouldn’t be talking like that to a 24-year-old who keeps begging him to walk away.”

“That’s why you’re selling food in a food cart, because you’re ignorant. But you should learn English, it’ll help you when they deport you back to Egypt and the Mukhabarat wants to interview you.”
In a second video, Seldowitz continues his attack on the exasperated vendor.
“It’s not my fault that you pray to a criminal…I’m going to put up big signs here that say ‘This guy believes in Hamas,’”
He then went on to accuse the vendor of not having a visa but the vendor retorted that he’s an American citizen.
Seldowitz then changed tack.
“You support killing little children. You’re a terrible person,” he said.
The vendor responded, “You kill children, not me.”
Seldowitz then said perhaps his most damaging line yet: “If we killed 4,000 Palestinian kids, you know what, it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough.”
