What happened to Tucker Carlson?

Tucker Carlson, the far-right Fox News host, is leaving the channel, the network announced on Monday, April 24th 2023.

“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” Fox said in a statement.

“Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8pm/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named.”

Why Did Tucker Carlson leave Fox News?

It is not immediately clear what spurred on the decision for Tucker Carlson to leave Fox News.

However, some incriminating things Tucker Carlson might have said that was uncovered recently might have led to his decision to leave.

Personal texts and emails from Carlson were made public as part of the defamation suit brought by Dominion Voting Systems. Those communications included comments that he “passionately” hated Donald Trump, and comments criticizing Fox’s news-wide journalists.

The news of his departure was a huge shock. Carlson had just inked a new contract with Fox News two years ago, a deal that included a dramatic expansion of Tucker Carlson original programming for the Fox Nation streaming service.

Carlson was slated to interview Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy on Monday night. The channel had been promoting the interview earlier in the morning.

Newsmax reported Carlson’s departure, writing: “Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News, having hosted his last primetime episode Friday, less than a week after settling a lawsuit over the network’s 2020 election reporting.

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” Fox News wrote in a statement Monday. “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.

“Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”

There was no immediate explanation from Fox about why Carlson was leaving.

Carlson became the network’s most popular personality after replacing Bill O’Reilly in the primetime lineup in 2016.

Carlson has been a controversial host, having questioned the support for Ukraine and been alleged to share anti-war sentiment that is not critical enough on Russia.

Also, Democrats had objected to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., granting Carlson access to Jan. 6 footage the former Democrat-led Congress did not show publicly during its Jan. 6 select committee hearings.

Don Lemon was terminated from his anchor role at CNN, he announced Monday.

The news comes after Variety published a story earlier this month on allegations that he mistreated his female colleagues over the course of his career there. And earlier this year, he faced backlash over widely criticized comments he made on-air.

Lemon announced the news on Twitter, saying he was informed by his agent that he was being terminated.

“I am stunned,” Lemon wrote. “After 17 years at CNN I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”

CNN CEO Chris Licht said that the network and Lemon have “parted ways,” according to a memo provided to NBC News Monday.

“Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years,” the statement said. “We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”

Lemon made the announcement on Twitter, writing: “I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.

“At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network,” his statement continued. “It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.”

The firing of Don Lemon comes just a short while after Fox News parted ways with Tucker Carlson.

Longtime CNN anchor Don Lemon announced Monday he was fired by the network in a move that left him “stunned,” which came less than an hour after Fox News said it had parted ways with host Tucker Carlson in another massive shakeup to the cable news landscape.

Lemon tweeted a message Monday blasting CNN’s leadership, saying: “I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”

CNN confirmed the departure shortly afterward, tweeting the network and the anchor “parted ways,” adding Lemon “will forever be a part of the CNN family.”

Lemon arrived at CNN in 2006, and spent the past five months co-hosting CNN This Morning alongside Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow.

Earlier, Tucker Carlson was announced to be leaving Fox News, the US media giant has announced.

In a statement, Fox News said that the network and Mr Carlson have agreed to “part ways”.

His last TV programme was Friday 21 April, the statement added. His primetime slot will now be hosted by a series of interim hosts until a permanent replacement is found.

The brief two paragraph statement gave no reason for the decision.
