Sara Doody, 22, was a Utica, NY mother of a 2-year-old girl who was shot and killed by her baby daddy in a murder-suicide.

Utica Police say a man shot two people, killing one, and fired on arriving police before running into a nearby home and shooting himself.

City police said the shooter and the woman he killed were previously in a relationship and had a 2-year-old child who was at the scene.

That child has been placed in the care of family members.

Another man, believed to be the shooter’s grandfather, was taken to Wynn Hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Utica police later released the names of the two people who died in the murder-suicide which occurred the night of Tuesday, April 2nd.

Donte Green, 26, fatally shot the mother of his child, Sara Doody, 22, with a rifle at least five times in the head and body inside a home at 406 Kingston Road, Lt. Mike Curley of the Utica Police Department said.

Green also shot his grandfather and then later shot and killed himself.

Green and Doody’s 2-year-old daughter was present during the shootings!

Sarah Doody was shot and killed by her baby daddy in their home on the 400 block of Kingston Road.

Donte Green, 26 and his grandfather, 77, both lived in the house and Doody lived with them until recently, police said.

“She shows up for a child custody exchange,” police Lieutenant Mike Curley said.

“Obviously some kind of argument ensued, resulting in her being shot. The grandfather tried to intervene. He gets shot.”

Utica Police released a statement addressing the murder-suicide.

Utica police and the fire department were dispatched to the scene at about 7:30 p.m. on April 2 in response to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and injuries.

The first officer to arrive pulled his vehicle between two residences and saw a man with a long rifle and a person lying on the ground with gunshot wounds, police said.

As the officer got out of his car, Green pointed the rifle at him and the officer took cover behind his vehicle, police said.

Green then fired at least two rounds at the officer and fled toward a neighboring house with the officer in pursuit, according to police.

Seconds after Green entered the home, a resident left and told officers that Green had just shot himself inside, police said. Officers entered and found Green dead with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

More officers arrived and went to the first house where they found the grandfather outside and Doody in the home’s entryway with multiple gunshot wounds to her head and body, police said.

The two-year-old stood in the doorway and was immediately brought to safety while fire personnel took care of the victims. The girl was turned over to family members at the scene.

Police are now trying to find out about any events that may have precipitated the tragedy, they said.

More information will be released as the investigation continues if police believe the release is warranted, police said.
