Who is Nathaniel Mcrae? 16-Year-Old Salem Bush’s Pasture Park Shooter Arrested

Nathaniel Shauntae Mcrae Jr is a 16-year-old American teen who shot and killed one teen and injured two others in Salem, Oregon.

Mcrae Jr turned himself into police on Friday after the deadly Thursday shooting.

He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon for the crime.

The shooting occurred in at Bush’s Pasture Park in the area of High Street Southeast and Leffelle Street Southeast stunned the community.

Around 1:45 pm Thursday, police arrived at Bush’s Pasture Park and found three teens suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say one of the teens, identified as 16-year-old Jose Vasquez-Valenzuela, died at the scene.

Two other teens, 15-year-old Damien Esquivel-Soto and a yet-to-be-identified 16-year-old boy, remain hospitalized.

“Right now, we are focused solely upon solving this crime, holding the perpetrator(s) accountable, and bringing justice to these victims and their families,” Salem Police Chief Trevor Womack said Thursday.

“We will, though, have to continue our work with the community to develop an effective intervention and prevention strategy for this intolerable level of violence.”

Late Friday evening, 16-year-old Nathaniel Shauntae McCrae Jr. turned himself in at the Salem Police Station.

McCrae Jr. was taken to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

A statement from the Salem Police Department read: “Late Friday evening, March 8, in the company of a parent, Nathaniel Shauntae McCrae Jr. turned himself in at the Salem Police Station and was taken into custody without incident.

“The 16-year-old McCrae was transported to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and lodged on the following charges:

Murder in the second degree

Attempted murder in the second degree, two counts

Assault in the first degree, two counts

Unlawful use of a weapon

With the suspect in custody, all further inquiries concerning this investigation should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office,”

Salem is the capital city of the U.S. state of Oregon, and the county seat of Marion County.

It is located in the center of the Willamette Valley alongside the Willamette River, which runs north through the city.

The river forms the boundary between Marion and Polk counties, and the city neighborhood of West Salem is in Polk County.

Salem was founded in 1842, became the capital of the Oregon Territory in 1851, and was incorporated in 1857.

Salem had a population of 175,535 at the 2020 census, making it the 3rd most populous city in the state after Portland and Eugene.
