The CEO of NBCUniversal, Jeff Shell, was forced to step down after an investigation uncovered a torrid affair he had with CNBC Senior International Correspondent Hadley Gamble.

NBC’s parent company, Comcast said it made the decision to remove Shell following an investigation into his conduct by outside counsel.

Shell’s team will now report to Comcast President Mike Cavanagh, a company-wide email announced.

The investigation was after CNBC correspondent Hadley Gamble filed a s*xual harassment claim against Shell.

Comcast said that the company received a complaint of “inappropriate conduct,” including s*xual harassment. During the investigation, “evidence was uncovered that corroborated the allegations,” leading to Shell’s termination “with cause.”

In a statement, Gamble’s attorney said that Gamble had lodged a complaint against Shell for sexual harassment and sex discrimination.

“The investigation into Mr. Shell arose from a complaint by my client of s*xual harassment and s*x discrimination. Given these circumstances it is very disappointing that my client’s name has been released and her privacy violated,” said attorney Suzanne McKie of Farore Law.

Cavanagh and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said in a joint statement: “We are disappointed to share this news with you.

‘We built this company on a culture of integrity. Nothing is more important than how we treat each other. You should count on your leaders to create a safe and respectful workplace.

‘When our principles and policies are violated, we will always move quickly to take appropriate action, as we have done here.’

Shell also said in a statement: “Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, which I deeply regret,” Shell said in a statement.

Hadley Gamble reportedly made a complaint against Jeff Shell about their relationship which triggered the investigation.

Daily Mail reported: “The media giant wrote Jeff Shell, promoted to the top seat three years ago, was leaving due to the findings from an ‘outside counsel’ – hired by the firm after it received a complaint of ‘inappropriate conduct’ involving the CEO and another staffer. Multiple people have since said that person was Hadley Gamble – who also reportedly sent in the complaint.”
