Who is Emmet Cardwell? 20-year-old App State Student Arrested Over Campus Stabbing

Emmet Cardwell, a 20-year-old student of Appalachian State University was arrested and charged following a stabbing incident on campus.

On Thursday, April 11, at 12:07 p.m., App State Police responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Peacock Hall.

A message was sent to the campus community, reading: “Stabbing in the area of Peacock Hall. Suspect left the area in a Black Toyota Convertible. Avoid the area.”

One individual was injured in the incident, and after being treated on the scene, was transported to Watauga Medical Center and is receiving treatment.

Two suspects were taken into custody at approximately 12:30 p.m. following the incident.

Boone Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, Mountaineer Medics, App State Emergency Management, Boone Fire Department and Watauga Medics all assisted in responding to the incident.

It was later announced that Emmet Cardwell, 20, of Durham, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with the felony crime of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.

A second person believed to have been involved, also an App State student, was interviewed but has not been charged with a crime at this time.

“This was immediately determined to be an isolated incident,” said App State Chief of Police Andy Stephenson, who determined there was no further threat to students.

“Officers who arrived at the scene quickly determined the suspects were not on campus, and that the victim and suspects knew one another.”
