Franklinton Gay Couple Murdered By Roommate Christian Webster

Christian Webster, 30, of Franklinton NC has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder after killing his roommates.

Matthew Johnson,34, and William Hulme, 26, were shot and killed in their home at 24 Pine Street, Franklinton NC.

Neighbors revealed to ABC 11 that their duo were a couple who owned the Pine Street home and the suspect, Webster was their roommate.

Johnson and Hulme were pharmacy technicians at Pruitt Health, ABC 11 reported citing neighbors.

The organization confirmed to ABC11 that they were grieving the loss of their coworkers.

The Franklinton Police Department revealed details of the incident in a statement.

“The Franklinton Police Department along with deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a double homicide at 24 Pine Street at approximately 2 AM on the morning of Friday, April 5, 2024,” the statmeent began.

“After a brief standoff with police, Christian Webster, 30 years old, was taken into custody without incident at 3:12 AM.

“Christian Webster has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

“Mr. Webster is currently being held at Central Prison.

“During FPD’s search of the residence, FPD located two deceased male victims.

“FPD has identified the victims as Matthew Johnson, 34 years old and William Hulme, 26 years old.

“The victims and Mr. Webster were roommates and resided at 24 Pine Street.

“On a previous occasion, FPD responded to a shots fired call at the residence, firearms were seized from the residence and Mr. Webster was taken into custody in connection with this previous incident,” the statement concluded.

Regarding the shooting, neighbor Stephanie Poole told ABC 11 she heard gunshots next door.

“It’s very unsettling. That’s the only thing I can say.”

Poole said she actually called police last weekend when she heard gunshots at 3 a.m. She said those gunshots were from Webster, who was firing at a tree in the backyard of the home.

“Ever since last weekend, I’ve just been really uneasy,” she said.

Court documents show that Webster has a court date scheduled for July 3 related to discharging a firearm in the city.

Franklinton is a town in Franklin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,456 at the 2020 census.

Franklinton, was established as Franklin Depot in 1839 on land owned by Shemuel Kearney (1791–1860), son of Crawford Kearney and Nancy White.

A home constructed by grandfather Shemuel Kearney (1734–1808) was originally located south of town and is currently the second oldest residence in Franklin County, built in 1759.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,023 people, 876 households, and 551 families residing in the town.

The racial makeup of the town was 55.8% White, 40.8% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.1% of the population.
