She became an instant public hit and has gone on to star in other seasons of the show.

How did Anna Shay die? Anna Shay sadly died after suffering a stroke in June 2023, her family announced in a statement.

“It saddens our hearts to announce that Anna Shay, a loving mother, grandmother, charismatic star, and our brightest ray of sunshine, has passed away at the early age of 62 from a stroke,” her family said in a statement.

“Anna taught us many life lessons on how not to take life too seriously and to enjoy the finer things. Her impact on our lives will be forever missed but never forgotten.”

Anna Shay was born to an American father, Edward Shay, and a Japanese-Russian mother, Ai Oizumi Shay, sometime in the early 1960s.

Her father, Edward, was a wealthy businessman, founder of the defense contractor company Pacific Architects and Engineers.

He “did a lot of mostly government contracts, embassies, and a lot of things that I don’t know about,” Shay said of her father’s job. “Basically, he was a businessman.”

Shay spent the first eight years of her life in Tokyo with her family before they moved to Los Angeles. She had one brother, Allen Shay.

Anna was extremely wealthy as she and her brother hit the jackpot in 2006 when they sold their father’s company for $1.2 billion.

In an interview, Anna Shay noted how her father was instrumental in her life and how keen she was to build on his legacy.

“My parents were so private because of what my father’s company did, right? So we grew up with security guards – the men in black – and yeah, I would just make fun of them and see if I could run away from them. I still do it now!”

She added: “My parents are my heroes and I think to continue their legacy is to give back.”

After a life of seclusion, Anna hit the public limelight in her 60s after being cast on Bling Empire.

“Bling Empire” is a reality TV series that follows a group of wealthy Asian-Americans in Los Angeles. It premiered in January 2021 and ran for three seasons with its final season having debuted in October 2022.

Netflix cancelled the show after its third and final season in April.

Shay became a fan favorite on the show, often advising her other costars. Her lifestyle and wealth – along with her at-times shy nature – were also showcased in the reality series.

Aside her brother, Allen Shay, Anna Shay has a son, Kenny Kemp, who she reportedly spent many years caring for prior to joining Empire Bling.

She has been married four times and divorced each time – although she reportedly keeps cordial relationships with all four ex-husbands.

Anna died in June 2023 after suffering a stroke at age 62.

Kenny Kemp is 27 years of age. He made guest appearances on Empire Bling alongside his mother.

His collection is compiled of five-figured Nintendo-inspired creature-shaped bongs which he collects simply due to his love of the craft.

Speaking to the publication, Anna Shay son Kenny Kemp said: “The demographic that does buy [glass] usually has money that’s not the cleanest,” he said.

“How are you not gonna spend a lot of money on [glass], when you have so much [cash]? Like how are you going to wash it out?”

Kenny Kemp presumably lived with his mother Anna Shay prior to her death and is now the heir to her $600m net worth.

Although prior to joining Bling Empire, CNN reports that Anna Shay was taking care of her son Kenny Kemp. It’s not clear if that implies normal motherly duties or if he fell sick – presumably from inhaling too much weed from his bongs?

Actress Kim Lee said Shay’s death comes as “a huge shock.

“I have so much love for Anna. I know that we had issues on the show but in real life, I had such a great connection with her outside of the show,” she continued. “We saw eye to eye, and she gave me so many words of wisdom I will never forget. There’s no one like Anna Shay; she’s an incredible and unique person who was beloved by so many people. My thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

Fellow “Bling Empire” star, film producer and entrepreneur, Kelly Mi Li took to Instagram to share a series of photos of herself with Shay, including many of the two embracing and a group shot of their appearance on “Celebrity Family Feud” alongside their castmates.

“RIP @annashay93 you are truly one of a kind and we will miss you forever,” she captioned the post.

Co-star Dorothy Wang also paid tribute to Shay on her Instagram Story with a pic of the two, plus Kim Lee from the show’s season 2 premiere.

“Rest in Peace, Anna. Your generosity, boldness, and fervor for life will forever be celebrated,” she wrote.

Anna Shay Shay appeared on Bling Empire in its inaugural season on Netflix in 2021, quickly becoming a fan favorite.

“Anna Shay is half-Japanese and half-Russian and super, super wealthy,” Kane Lim said during a confessional in season 1.

Though Lim said Shay’s money was accrued from “weapons,” Shay disputed the claim. “I asked him, ‘Why did you say my dad was in arms?'” she told PEOPLE. “He goes, ‘I don’t know.’ He thought he knew, but maybe he didn’t know and was just guessing.”

Anna Shay told PEOPLE she didn’t anticipate her success from Bling Empire. “I wasn’t even expecting to be in front of the camera,” she said. “I’m very shy and I went along with whatever situation was happening. I was just being me.”
