Richard Edwards Jr., 44, was a Birmingham, Alabama man who was found dead early Sunday in an apparent homicide.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at a residence in the 10 Block of Holt Avenue.
Officers arrived on the scene where they observed the victim lying unresponsive in the yard of the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
He was later identified as Richard Edwards Jr.
The preliminary investigation suggests a community member heard gunshots in the area and then dialed 911.
Detectives are working to determine a motive for the shooting.
There is no one in custody.
