Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević died on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack at dinner the night before in Salt Lake City.
The Warriors were preparing to play the Utah Jazz Wednesday at 7 p.m. MST at the Delta Center, when the tragedy occurred.
The game was postponed in the wake of the emergency, but sad news came later that he couldn’t survive.
The NBA announced the postponement shortly after the team announced that Milojević was hospitalized Tuesday night, having suffered “a medical emergency at a private team dinner.”
He had a heart attack and died late Wednesday morning, the team said.

After the initial heart attack, the Warriors released a statement about the incident and promised more updates in due time.
The Warriors released a statement: “Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević was hospitalized last night in Salt Lake City, Utah, after suffering a medical emergency at a private team dinner. An update on Milojević’s status will be provided as appropriate,” the statement read.
Following that, the NBA announced the postponement of Warriors @ Jazz.
“The National Basketball Association game scheduled for tonight between the Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz has been postponed due to a medical emergency in the Warriors family.
“THe date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time,”
Later on Wednesday, an update arrived but it wasn’t what anyone was hoping for – Dejan Milojevic had passed, leaving behind his wife and two kids.

Milojević, 46, passed away late Wednesday morning.
“We are absolutely devastated by Dejan’s sudden passing,” said Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr.
“This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him.
“In addition to being a terrific basketball coach, Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known, someone who brought joy and light to every single day with his passion and energy.
“We grieve Dejan Milojevic with and for his wife, Natasa, and their children, Nikola and Masa. Their loss is unfathomable.”
Milojević was in his third season as an assistant coach with the Warriors and was a member of the team’s coaching staff during Golden State’s run to the 2022 NBA Championship.
Before joining the Warriors, Milojević spent the 2021 season as head coach of KK Budućnost in the Adriatic League in Montenegro.
Prior to KK Budućnost, Milojević served as the head coach for KK Mega Basket in Belgrade, Serbia, for eight seasons (2012- 20).
In December 2019, he was named an assistant coach for the Serbian national team under Igor Kokoškov. Milojević was a member of the Atlanta Hawks Summer League staff in 2016, the San Antonio Spurs in 2017 and the Houston Rockets in 2018.
A native of Belgrade, Milojević enjoyed a 14-year international playing career and was named the Adriatic League Most Valuable Player three times (2004-06).

Milojevic was born in Belgrade in 1977, grew up in Padinska Skela, then moved to Zemun and grew up with a ball in his hand playing for Beovuk.
He became a professional in FMP, where in 1998 to 2000, he drew attention to himself and gained the status of a national team player.
Together with Marko Jarić and Igor Rakočević, he was among the players of the super-talented national team that in 1998 became the champion of Europe under the age of 22 in Italy.
After that, je failed for two summers to pass the final “cut” of coach Željko Obradović for the “A” selection that played Eurobasket in 1999 and the Olympic Games in 2000, but he got his chance in 2001, when he became the European champion with Yugoslavia under the leadership of Svetislav Kari Pešić.

A year after that, due to an injury, Milojević failed to participate in the World Championships Indianapolis, where Serbia won the World Championship, and he played in the national team under the leadership of Željko Obradović at the Eurobasket in 2005.
In the meantime, he won the “double crown” of FR Yugoslavia with the Budućnosti team and in 2004 was a member of the second best team of the Euroleague, in which he also played in the knockout phase with the Montenegrins.
He also played for Budućnost for the longest time in his career, four years.
After a number of years in Montenegro, Milojević expressed a desire to play in Partizan, turning down Dinamo Moscow and Crvena zvezda.
In the Euroleague, he scored 20.8 points in the first season, 16.4 in the second season, and was a key player in the team that won domestic trophies.
After his career was over, Milojevic became a coach, first as an assistant, and from 2012 as the head of the professional staff of Mega, which he led from 2012 to 2020, as one of the longest serving coaches both in the club and in the region.
During that time, he won the Radivoj Korać Cup, played in the final of the regional playoffs with a young team and groomed the super talents of Serbian basketball, above all Nikola Jokić and Vasilji Micić.
In 2020, he left Mega, moved to Buducnost, and in 2021 he got a great send-off to America.
Widely respected in Serbia, he got tapped by the Golden Stae Warriors, where he worked until his eventual demise.
