Ifeanyi Adeleke was the three-year-old son of Nigerian singer Davido and his fiancée Chioma Rowland, a popular chef and influencer. 

He was born on October 20, 2019, and was the only son and third child of Davido. 

Sadly, he died on October 31, 2022, after drowning in a swimming pool at his parents’ home in Lagos. 

His death sparked a lot of grief and controversy among his fans and the public. 

The Nigerian police arrested eight domestic workers for questioning following the incident.

The three-year-old Davido son Ifeanyi Adeleke had celebrated his birthday just a few days prior to the tragedy, on October 20th 2022,

This unfortunate event occurred mere days after Ifeanyi, during a bonding session with his father Davido, was spotted receiving swimming lessons in an adorable video.

Whilst at home with his nannies, Davido son Ifeanyi Adeleke had slipped away to the pool on his own where he was later found unresponsive.

Despite swift transportation to Evercare Hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival. 

Overwhelmed with grief, Davido was relocated from Evercare Hospital to his father’s residence, where he would remain for a while before making a public reappearance.

On the day of the incident, Davido and Chioma had traveled to Ibadan, leaving Ifeanyi in the care of attendants.

Eight domestic workers were arrested for Ifeanyi Adeleke’s death.

The eight domestic workers who were questioned by the police included the cook and nanny, whose job it was to look after the wellbeing of the three-year-old boy. 

They were detained for reasons including failing to uphold the duty of care of the minor. 

However, they were later freed after they cooperated with the police and showed remorse for their actions

The police have also conducted an autopsy on the body of Davido son Ifeanyi Adeleke and confirmed that he drowned.

It’s worth noting that Davido and Chioma had celebrated their son’s third birthday lavishly a few days before the tragic incident.

Nigerian singer Davido son Ifeanyi Adeleke drowned at the singer’s Banana Island mansion leading police to carry out an autopsy report.

The Lagos State police command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed details of the autopsy result.

“The autopsy was concluded [and] it determined that the cause of death of the late Ifeanyi Adeleke was drowning. 

Presently investigation into the events that led to his drawing is still ongoing,” he said.

In an interview in March 2023, Davido said he misses his son Ifeanyi Adeleke every day.

“I miss him every day,” Davido stated, adding that despite the loss he has resolved to stay strong for his family, friends and fans.

He noted that if Ifeanyi is looking down at him, he will not want his parents to be sad.

“I look at myself in the mirror and I said apart from it just being about me, I know how many people love me, I know how many people are depending on me. Apart from me being strong for his mom, which is my primary responsibility, I have to be strong for the world.”

Ifeanyi’s death drew parallels with a similar misfortune that befell Afrobeats artist D’banj, whose son also drowned in a swimming pool.

Nigerian Afrobeats star D’banj lost his only son in a drowning incident in June 2018.

Daniel Oyebanjo III, who turned one a month to the tragedy, died in a swimming pool at the singer’s Lagos home.

In the wake of the incident, D’banj posted a black background on his Instagram page with the caption: “Trying times but my God is Always and Forever Faithful.”

D’banj was said to be away for a musical award in Los Angeles, United States, when the incident happened.

Nigerian superstar singer and performer Davido officially married his long time girlfriend and baby mama Chioma a few days after the death of the couple’s son, Ifeanyi.

Davido later confirmed the news in an exclusive interview with content creator and actress, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori.

Davido said, “Just being away, you know I have had a lot to think about definitely. Time to rest, reflect on a lot of family time and time to make music again. 

“You know, I remade the album. Before I went on a break I actually had an album ready. I had a tour ready. 

“You know we did the album. I travelled. It was crazy. I’m married. A lot of different things but yeah, we are ready now to get back on the road. The album is out, it’s amazing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chioma shared with her fans and followers some pictures from their private wedding ceremony.

Chef Chi as she is popularly called made a collage of the memories captioned on the day to mark their anniversary.

The couple were seen wearing simple white outfits at the ceremony that took place in their home.

Davido had been dragging his feet for years in regards to marrying Chioma.

It appears the death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, finally gingered Davido to do the right thing and tie down his wife for life.

This new birth came almost exactly a year after Davido lost his infant son Ifeanyi Adeleke.

Davido and Chioma were out of town and Ifeanyi was left in the care of his nanny, who lost track of the boy.

He fell in the pool and was underwater for an unspecified period of time before he was found.
