Adam Harrison, the son of Rick Harrison, the star of the popular reality TV show Pawn Stars, has passed away at the age of 39 from a drug overdose, according to multiple reports.
The Harrison family confirmed the sad news in a statement to Page Six on Friday, saying, “Our family is extremely saddened by the death of Adam. We ask for privacy as we grieve his loss.”
TMZ, who first reported the news, said that the family found out about Adam’s death earlier on Friday, but did not reveal the details of when and where he died, and what substance he overdosed on.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is reportedly investigating the case, per TMZ.
Adam was one of Rick’s three sons. He shared Adam and his brother Corey with his first wife, Kim, and his son Jake with his second wife, Tracy.
Adam was not involved in the family business of running the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, which is featured on the History Channel series “Pawn Stars”. He also did not appear on the TV show, unlike his brother Corey, who is a regular cast member.
Rick Harrison, 58, opened the pawn shop in 1988 with his father, Richard “Old Man” Harrison, who died in 2018. The show follows the Harrison family as they buy, sell, and appraise items of historical value.
Adam’s death is the latest tragedy to hit the “Pawn Stars” family. In 2018, Richard “Old Man” Harrison died at 77 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
In 2020, Rick Harrison’s mother, Joanne Harrison, sued him in a dispute over family assets and the ownership of the pawn shop. She claimed that Rick had her sign over her 51% interest in the pawn shop without fully understanding what she was signing, and that she had not received complete documentation of the business’s finances. The lawsuit is still ongoing.
Pawn Stars creator Rick Harrison took to Instagram to comment on the death of his son, writing: “You will always be in my heart! I love you Adam. 💔”
Whilst Rick Harrison other sons Corey and Jake have been featured on the hit antique show, Adam decided to stay away from the limelight.
However, he used to work at his father’s famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop located in Las Vegas, Nevada, but decided that it wasn’t the job for him.
Adam left the business and became a plumber.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating his death.
