Treat and Pam first met when she was waitressing in a New York restaurant, according to US Weekly. They started dating and eventually married in 1988. After saying “I do,” they went on to welcome two children, including son Gill in 1992 and daughter Elinor in 1998.

Pam was supportive of Treat’s career and often made public appearances with him to promote his work. 

She would attend premieres for film and television shows, and sometimes brought their kids along.  

Before his sudden death, Treat often shared photos of his wife on social media and one of his last Twitter posts was a tribute to her on mothers day. 

Treat wrote: ‘Happy Mother’s Day Pam. You raised two extraordinary people. What a great mom you are. I am grateful.’

Along with her children, the devoted wife shared a statement to Deadline just hours after his death.  

‘It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vermont after a fatal motorcycle accident. 

‘As you can imagine we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time. Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it.

‘We are beyond devastated and ask that you respect our privacy as we deal with our grief. To all his fans, please know that Treat appreciated all of you and please continue to keep him in your hearts and prayers,’ the statement was signed ‘The Williams Family.’

Treat Williams, whose career accomplishments include “Hair” and “Everwood” has died as the result of a motorcycle accident.

The actor’s death was confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday evening by his agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson.

“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off,” McPherson says. “I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.”

“He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s,” McPherson continues. “He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.

His wife, Pam Van Sant also released a statement on his death.

Jacob Gribble, the fire chief for Dorset, Vermont, tells PEOPLE the crash happened on Monday around 5 p.m. on Route 30 by Long Trail Auto near Dorset, Vermont.

Per Gribble, the incident involved a single car and Williams’ motorcycle. Investigators believe the driver of the car was turning and didn’t see the motorcycle. Gribble says the motorcyclist was the only person hurt and a LifeNet helicopter was summoned to airlift him to a hospital in New York.

The Manchester Fire Department responded and set up the landing zone for the helicopter. Other emergency services that responded included East Dorset Fire and Rupert Fire.

The Vermont State Police also put out a press release later on Monday, confirming Williams’ identity and the details surrounding the crash. Police confirmed the investigation is in its early stages and team members will return to the location of the collision on Tuesday, June 13, to continue processing the scene.

The actor’s longstanding career dates back to 1975, when he made his film debut in the thriller Deadly Hero. From there, he began to take on more film roles, including 1976’s The Ritz and The Eagle Has Landed.

In 1979, Williams’ career reached a high point when he starred as George Berger in the film Hair, which was based on the Broadway musical. The role ultimately earned him his first Golden Globe nomination for new star of the year – actor. He later earned another Golden Globe nom for best actor in a motion picture drama for his role in 1981’s Prince of the City.

In 2002, he began portraying the leading role of Dr. Andrew “Andy” Brown on The WB’s Everwood. He starred on the series for all four seasons, and even earned himself a SAG Award nomination for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series in 2003-04.

With more than 120 credits to his name, Williams’ career extended over four decades with appearances in films like Steven Spielberg’s 1941 and Heart of Dixie, and television shows like Blue Bloods, The Late Shift, Chicago Fire and Chesapeake Shores.

Williams also appeared in several Hallmark projects like The Christmas HouseBeyond the BlackboardSafe Harbor and Chasing a Dream, as well as Netflix’s Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square and The Noel Diary.

The actor is survived by his wife, actress Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Gill and Ellie.

Pam Van Sant had two children with Treat Williams, Gill and Ellie.

Via PEOPLE! – Treat became a first-time father when he and Pam Van Sant welcomed their son, Gill Williams, in December 1992.

From a young age, Gill seemed comfortable with life in the spotlight, attending red carpets and movie premieres with his father and mother. Most recently, he attended a special 40th-anniversary screening of Hair alongside his father at New York City’s Metrograph Theater in September 2019.

Gill followed in his father’s acting footsteps, appearing in a few short films in 2015. He even made one appearance alongside his father in a project, as Treat shared on Twitter. “Acting with my son Gill today. Life is perfect,” he wrote next to a snap of the father-son duo in March 2015.

In August 2015, Gill graduated from New York University, and his proud dad marked the occasion by sharing a sweet family photo on Twitter. “My son graduated from NYU. My daughter is 16 my wife is the best and at 63 I am content. Lucky,” Treat wrote alongside the snap.

After graduating, Gill began a career in music, and regularly posted snippets of his songs and beatboxes on social media.

Now, Gill is a talented artist, and often posts photos of his work on Instagram. He’s also outspoken about several social justice causes. In 2020, he posted a drawing of George Floyd,  Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor and several other victims of police brutality, captioning the post, “No Justice, No Peace.” 

His father showed his support in the comments. “My son did this. Proud papa,” wrote Treat. Pam Van Sant also supports her son wholeheartedly.

Like her older brother, Ellie grew up on sets and red carpets for her father’s movie and TV projects. In October 2015, Treat tweeted a photo of Ellie on the set of Chicago Fire, smiling next to his costars. “My daughter Ellie was on set all day. You think she would be bored,” he wrote alongside the image.

In September 2016, Treat celebrated his daughter’s 18th birthday with a sweet snap on Twitter. “Happy 18th Birthday to my beautiful daughter Ellie! Love you so much,” he captioned the candid photo of Ellie from a school dance.

After attending The University of Vermont, Ellie moved to Los Angeles, though she was still able to spend quality time with her father during his trips to visit her. Most recently, Treat and Ellie visited Universal Studios Hollywood in April, an outing Ellie marked with a carousel of photos on Instagram.

Just one week before his death, Treat shared a tribute to Ellie on Instagram, simply captioning a snap of his younger child: “I miss you daughter ❤️❤️❤️”
