Victory Gbakara is a Nigerian lawyer and singer-songwriter who hit the limelight after winning Nigerian Idol in 2023.

Gbakara beat Precious Mac on Sunday, July 16th 2023 to win the show, walking away with N100m worth of prizes.

So who is Victory Gbakara and what is his date of birth and state of origin? Victory Gbakara was born to Archbishop Solomon Oghenesuvwetoba Gbakara and his wife, Mrs. Gbakara on February 25, 1997 in Delta State, Nigeria, making him 26 years of age. He is a member of the Urhobo ethnic group.

Gbakara showed an affinity for music from a very young age and always engaged in it alongside his academic prowess. He started singing at the age of nine and was part of a choir group, learning also to play the guitar and the piano.

Victory Gbakara had his early education in his hometown and went on to join Benson Idahosa University in Benin City, Edo State where graduated with a degree in law. Aside from his singing career, Victory Gbakara is a practising lawyer.

The 26-year-old auditioned for Nigerian Idol in 2023 and impressed the judges with his rendition of John Legend’s “All of Me”. He made it all the way to the top 10 and then to the finals, where he ultimately competed against the equally formidable Precious Mac.

On Sunday, July 16th 2023, Victory Gbakara became the 8th winner of Nigerian Idol after defeating Precious Mac in a keen contest. He subsequently walked away with a prize of N100m of which N35 is in pure cash.

His other rewards include a brand-new car, a music record deal and a video shoot.

Speaking after his victory, Victory Gbakara said: “I don’t know what to say. But I want to say thank you. You made this happen. “Thank you all so much. I love you. Thank you for making my dream come true.”

Victory Gbakara’s relationship status is not currently known. He is believed not to be in a relationship.

After eight highly competitive weeks, Victory Gbakara was announced as the winner of the eighth edition of the country’s most-watched singing competition – Nigerian Idol. 

The keenly contested show, which commenced on DStv and GOtv on April 23, has seen over 10,000 auditioners whittled down to 29 contestants, who were further trimmed to the top 10 contenders.

The winner just received the coveted grand prize –  including ₦‎35m cash, a brand new SUV, one Bigi Refrigerator and one year’s supply of Bigi soft drink, an all-expense paid trip courtesy Tecno, a music record deal by a reputable label that will include a video shoot, one year supply of WAW detergent, and a fully installed DStv Explora with one year of Premium subscription.

Victory Gbakara joins the elite group of winners that have emerged since the show’s return in 2021. Victory will now be considered peers with talented alums, Kingdom Kroseide who took on the title in 2021 and Progress Chukwuyem, who won just last year. While reflecting on Victory’s performances all season long, Obi-Asika, one of the judges said, “Victory Gbakara has always been a star and one could see his potential right from the auditions stage. We the judges are proud to watch him grow throughout the competition and emerge as the show’s winner”.
