Terrible news coming out of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State is that Nollywood legend, Amaechi Muonagor has died.
Muonagor died after a fierce battle with numerous ailments including stroke and kidney disease.
He recently publicly begged for help to fund his medical expenses to no avail.
His death was confirmed by his junior colleague, Kingsley Orji, on Sunday March 24th 2024.

61-year-old Amaechi Muonagor, the renowned Nollywood actor, was married to Hope Chikodi Muonagor, his beloved wife of numerous years.
The couple welcomed four children, although details about their names and ages are not widely known due to Amaechi‘s preference for maintaining a private family life.

His family have been left devastated with the sad passing of the actor.
Health challenges & death
The Nollywood actor reportedly died today, Sunday, March 24, after suffering from kidney-related issues, diabetes, and stroke.
In 2023, he suffered a stroke that led to partial paralysis of his left leg.
He was undergoing weekly dialysis and physiotherapy to treat the paralysis brought on by stroke.
However, reports say he suffered total kidney failure, leading to his death.
His death comes just days after he cried out for financial assistance on social media to enable him pay for a kidney transplant.
His death sparked numerous reactions of social media.
“Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing. He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful,” Morris Monye wrote.
“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India. This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country,”

DW Africa wrote on Facebook: “Nigerian Nollywood veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, has passed away, local media have reported.

Amaechi Muonagor, born on August 20, 1962, was a renowned Nigerian actor and producer.
He hailed from Obosi village in Idemili North, Anambra State, Nigeria. Amaechi Muonagor attended St. Mary’s Primary School in Obosi and Oraifite Grammar School before pursuing his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where he studied economics and graduated in 1987.
His acting career began in 1989 after his youth service when he left his job at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to take on his first movie role as Akunatakasi in Taboo 1, a Nigerian film.
Amaechi Muonagor made significant contributions to Nollywood and was known for his roles in movies such as Igodo, Code of Silence, and My Village People.

In 2016, he received a nomination for the AMVCA 2017 Best Actor In a Comedy category.

He appeared in over 200 Nollywood films including those from the Mr. Ibu series.
Okafor was born on 17 October 1961. He was from Umunekwu in Nigeria’s former Eastern Region (now in Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State).
After elementary school and the death of his father in 1974, Okafor moved to Sapele to stay with his brother. In Sapele, he did menial jobs so he could send himself to school and support his family.
Okafor then worked as a hairstylist, ventured into photography and also worked in a company that produced crates.
After secondary school, he was admitted into the College of Education, Yola, but pulled out due to financial difficulties.
He later enrolled in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
Okafor acted in more than 200 Nollywood films including Mr. Ibu (2004), Mr. Ibu 2 (2005), Mr. Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, Issakaba (1999), Mr. Ibu in London (2005) etc.

In October 2023, Okafor revealed that he was suffering from an ailment that threatened to make it necessary to amputate one of his legs.
In November 2023, Okafor underwent a leg amputation after suffering from an illness that required seven surgeries. His family said the amputation was done to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery.
Okafor died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria on 2 March 2024 at the age of 62 as a result of cardiac arrest.
