The private life of Zenith Bank’s new Group CEO, Adaora Umeoji, has been kept very under wraps by herself.

However, it is now known that she is married to Dr. Emmanuel Nwokoye, a medical doctor and businessman from Achalla in Akwa North, Anambra.

Their union is blessed with children.

Adaora Umeoji is known in private life as Mrs Adaora Nwokoye.

On Tuesday, March 19th 2024, Zenith Bank announced a new appointment.

Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji was named the new Group Managing Director / Chief Executive of Zenith Bank.

Her appointment takes effect from June 1st 2024, subject to approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

She takes over from Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose five-year term expires on May 31, 2024.

Dr Adaora Umeoji is the first female GMD/CEO since the inception of the bank.

Before being named Group Managing Director / Chief Executive, she was the Deputy Managing Director of the bank, a position she has held since October 28, 2016.

She has close to thirty (30) years cognate banking experience of which twenty-six (26) years has been with Zenith Bank.

Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji attended the University of Jos, Plateau State between 1992 and 1996 and obtained a B.Sc Degree in Sociology.

She obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar in 2003

She joined Zenith Bank in 1998.

Previous positions include the Head, Marketing Group, Maitama branch of the Bank, Deputy Zonal Head, Abuja Zone and Executive Director in charge of Abuja and Middle Belt Zones of the Bank.

According to reports, the husband of Adaora Umeoji is a medical doctor based in the U.S., hailing from the very prominent Nwokoye family in Achalla of Awka North.

Dr Adaora Umeoji is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School where she attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) and an alumnus of Columbia Business School with a Certificate in the Global Banking Program.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a First-Class honors in Law from Baze University, Abuja.

She holds a Master of Laws from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar, and also has a doctorate in business administration from Apollos University, USA.

Dr Umeoji holds a Certificate in Economics for Business from the prestigious MIT Sloan School of Management, USA, and has attended various management programmes in renowned Universities around the world including the strategic thinking and Management programme at Wharton Business School, USA.

She also attended the executive program in Strategic Management, and has a Certificate in Leading Global Business all from Harvard Business School, USA.

She is a fellow of notable professional bodies including the Chartered Banker Institute, UK, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management, Institute of Credit Administration, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria among others.

In 2022, the Federal Government of Nigeria honored Dr. Umeoji with Officer of the Order of the Niger, as a recognition of her contributions to nation building.

She is a Peace Advocate of the United Nations (UN-POLAC).

She is also a Lady of the Order of Knights of St. John International (KSJI), and was awarded a Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by His Holiness Pope Francis.

Dr Adaora Umeoji was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors on October 9, 2012.

She emerged winner of The Humanitarian Services Icon of the Year Award 2023 at The Sun Awards 2023.

She was honoured for Her Pink Breath Cancer Care Foundation which undertakes several healthcare programs annually within the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria to provide much needed medical care for persons living with cancer and other ailments.

She also donates relief materials and provides free healthcare to internally displaced persons nationwide, through several other intervention initiatives.

Her husband’s brother, Hon. John Nwokoye is a prominent politician, a Member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
