Boone passed away at the age of 44 on Sunday, September 3rd 2023 after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ruschell, née West, and husband Todd Boone tied the knot on September 24th 2005 in St James, Jamaica.
Ruschell West and her husband had two sons, Jackson, 12, and Carter, 9.
Todd Boone was born to Ralph and Janet Boone some 50 years ago. He is a television production technician who met his wife in the course of their work.
Todd Boone’s mother, Janet, was a real estate agent in Neptune Beach, Florida whilst his father, Dr. Ralph Boone is a family practitioner in Jacksonville, Florida.
After his early education, Ruschell Boone husband attended the Valdosta State University in Georgia where he graduated with honours.
Eventually, he landed at NY1 where his wife-to-be, Ruschell also worked and the two would build a lifelong bond.
The lovebirds got married in a beautiful ceremony in St. James, Jamaica, where Ruschell hails from.
The Rev. John Hines, a nondenominational minister, officiated the glamorous ceremony held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort.

After a brutal, multi-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Ruschell will die on Sunday, September 3rd 2023.
Boone was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2021, when nagging, vague stomach discomfort evolved into horrible pains and a trip to the emergency room.
A CT scan revealed the devastating news, upon which Ruschell said she started crying to her husband Todd Boone, hoping she had the diagnosis incorrectly.
“I just started wailing, crying and looking at my husband, thinking I heard it incorrectly,” she had told The Post after the diagnosis.
“I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m dead … My kids are going to grow up without a mother,’” she added.
Due to her diagnosis, Boone had to step away from duties at NY1 from June 2022 through March 2023 as she received chemotherapy.
In March, she returned to the anchor chair and told devoted viewers of her noon newscast that the chemo was “so brutal,” but she was back to “feeling great.”
However, just four months after being declared cancer-free, Boone revealed on social media that her battle with cancer had taken a turn for the worse.
“I’m very touched by all who reached out to see how I’m doing. Unfortunately, my cancer has metastasized in my liver and I’m back in treatment. It’s rough, but the chemo is working,” Boone shared to her Instagram and X accounts in late July.
“Prayers have carried me through the difficult moments. Thank u for rooting for me.”
A couple of months later, Ruschell Boone would lose the battle, leaving her husband widowed and her two kids motherless.

Who was Ruschell Boone?
Ruschell Boone was a Jamaican-born reporter and journalist based in New York City.
She worked for NY1 cable television news from 2002 until her death on 3 September 2023.
Ruschell was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated to the Bronx in 1986 when she was only 11 years old.
As a child, she was bullied for her Jamaican accent.
Ruschell Boone grew up living in a blended family with her mother Faithlyn (Swaby) and stepfather Duke Scott.
She had her early education at Harry S. Truman High School following which she earned a degree in accounting from City University of New York (CUNY) Baruch College.
However, despite choosing to study Accounting, fate would turn her to journalism in her senior year when she took over a college radio segment for a missing guest.
According to Wikipedia, her academic counselor tried to dissuade her from a career change, saying that it was too late for her to change paths and that she did not “fit the mold [for a journalist].
Ruschell Boone persevered and started her cable news career in 1998.
She worked as a business news associate for CNBC and then an associate producer and assignment editor for CNN.
She joined NY1 in 2002, where she would start a relationship with her eventual husband Todd Boone, a production technician at the station.
At NY1, Ruschell Boone has covered breaking stories such as the 2016 pressure-cooker bombing in Manhattan and the 2016 presidential election.
She became a general assignment reporter for NY1’s Live at Ten newscast in 2018.

“She was a dedicated and principled journalist to the very end,” a memo from NY1 said.
“In her last week with us, she was still working on ideas for her show and sharing thoughts for making NY1 a continued beacon of truth for New Yorkers.”
“Ruschell recently shared that every day we spend with our loved ones is a victory,” the internal memo added. “Ruschell made every moment feel victorious and every day feel special. We’re heartbroken we won’t get to have more days with her.”
“Ruschell’s legacy will be defined by that outstanding journalism and, more than anything, her remarkable ability to connect,” the memo to staff said.
“Shewas effervescent in every sense of the word. She was, simply put, a joy to be around. It was those traits that allowed her to deeply engage with New Yorkers, as well as behind the scenes with her colleagues.
“Ruschell will always be remembered for her service to the people of New York, especially her beloved boroughs of Queens and the Bronx. We will not be the same without her.” it concluded.
The late anchor, Ruschell Boone is survived by her husband Todd and two sons.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement on Boone’s passing, sending her condolences to NY1.
“Ruschell was a tenacious journalist, a voice for the voiceless, and embodied the spirit of New York City,” Hochul said. “I know her reporting left an indelible mark on the city and inspired so many New Yorkers.”
Mayor Eric Adams released a statement on Boone’s death, describing her as a “fighter.”
“She took on her battle with cancer with strength, and grace, while never losing focus as she delivered the news to the city she loved so much,” Adams said.
Boone was the only TV reporter at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Democratic primary election party in June 2018 when the underdog candidate learned from early returns that she was about to upset incumbent U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley.
“I cannot put this into words,” the soon-to-be Congress member told Boone on live TV.
Following her death, AOC mourned her on Twitter (X).
“Ruschell Boone was a legendary journalist who left an indelible impact on NYC. Ruschell was everywhere.
“She was often the first reporter on the scene across the city, and was the person who told me I had won my first election. A major loss for NYC. She will be deeply missed,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
NY1, her former employers also said: “Ruschell had a unique ability to connect with New Yorkers — through the screen and in person — in a way that made her feel like a trusted friend. Highlighting the city’s diverse communities was always a priority.
“Despite her long list of awards and accolades, Ruschell Boone was always most focused on her family, including her mother, her siblings, her husband Todd and her two sons, Carter and Jackson.
“A mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a journalist, a Jamaican-American, a true New Yorker, Ruschell leaves behind a rich and loving legacy for her family, her friends and her city,”
