A Gofundme page was set up for Magnus White, a 17-year-old US cyclist, after his shocking death via being hit by a car.

Magnus White was hit by a car whilst out on a training ride near his home in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday, July 29th 2023.

He died due to the impact, leading to the tragic death of a young, up-and-coming maestro.

The death of Magnus White, a 17-year-old ‘rising star’ of US cycling who was scheduled to race at the upcoming world championships, has stunned the world.

Magnus White death occurred Saturday, July 29th 2023 whilst out on a ‘training ride’ ahead of the upcoming world championships.

According to MailOnline: ”Magnus White was hit from behind by a 23-year-old woman who was at the wheel of a Toyota Matrix just after 12:30pm on Saturday. The collision forced White and his bike off the road and into a fence where his bike came to rest. Colorado State Patrol say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.”

Magnus White (born November 18, 2005) of Boulder, Colorado, had been rising quickly through the cycling ranks and credited his father with getting him involved in the sport.

“When I was growing up, my dad really got me into cycling because he raced road, then I discovered my local team (Boulder Junior Cycling), which has some really great coaches who got me where I am today,” White said in his profile on the USA Cycling website. 

“In the summer of 2023, I am set to embark on a new and exciting chapter of my cycling career: a debut in the international mountain bike racing circuit, proudly wearing the Team USA jersey,” he wrote.

Unfortunately, that was never to come to pass.

In his career, Magnus White won the Junior 17-18 Cyclocross National Championships in 2021 and earned a place on the U.S. national team. He went on to compete with the USA Cycling National Team for a full season of European Cyclocross racing and closed out the year at the 2022 UCI Cyclocross World Championship in Arkansas. 

Magnust White had been picked to represent the U.S. again at this year’s cyclocross worlds in the Netherlands and this summer he earned a spot on the Mountain Bike World Championships team.

He was focused on his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow in Scotland to compete in the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships on August 10 when the sad accident that led to his death occurred.

USA Cycling announced the sad news of the death of young Magnus White in a statement.

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share the news that 17-year-old Magnus White has passed away in a training accident.

“On Sunday, July 30th, we received the news that National Team athlete Magnus White was struck by a car on a bike ride in his home of Boulder, Colorado. White was focused on his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships on August 10, 2023.

“White fell in love with cycling at an early age through Boulder Junior Cycling. He was a rising star in the off-road cycling scene and his passion for cycling was evident through his racing and camaraderie with his teammates and local community. He won the 2021 Junior 17-18 Cyclocross National Championships, then went on to compete with the USA Cycling National Team for a full season of European Cyclocross racing and closed out the year at the 2022 UCI Cyclocross World Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

“He proudly represented the U.S. and the Boulder community at another Cyclocross World Championships in January of 2023 in Hoogerheide. The summer of 2023 marked a new chapter for White, where he earned a spot on the Mountain Bike World Championships team.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the White family, his teammates, friends, and the Boulder community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We ride for Magnus.”

Magnus White is survived by his parents, Michael and Jill, and his brother, Eero.

A Gofundeme has been organised by friends of the family.

Following his tragic death, friends of Magnus White and family organised a GoFundMe to help in this trying time.

The Magnus White Gofundme, organised by one Christine Lipson reads: “Help us honor the memory of Magnus White, a bright and talented 17-year-old, who tragically lost his life on Saturday, July 29, in Boulder, CO. Magnus was taken from us while doing what he loved most, riding his bike. Magnus’s family is strong, but support from their community will go a long way to give them time to grieve.

“Magnus’s greatest joy in life was cycling after playing flag football when he was younger. He was also an accomplished skier.

“He began cycling when he was eight and quickly rose through the cycling ranks. Magnus’s journey in cycling was driven by a tireless work ethic and a deep desire to achieve his personal best. He was proud to represent his community and country around the world. Magnus accomplished many of the goals he set for himself. Magnus won the USA cyclocross national championship in December 2021. 

“He raced in the UCI cyclocross world championship in 2022 and 2023 and was scheduled to race in the UCI mountain bike world championships on August 10. He raced for Boulder Junior Cycling and represented the United States at various international events. He was to start his senior year in high school in a few weeks.

“Magnus leaves behind his parents Jill and Michael and his brother Eero and countless friends worldwide. The family will use any contributions as needed for support of moving through this tragic period.

“Please join us in remembering Magnus and supporting his family during this difficult time.”

The Magnus White Gofundme ended with the suffix: “Sent by Christine Lipson (Rapinz) with the permission of the White family. Magnus and my son were close friends and teammates.”

As at the time of this writing, the Magnus White Gofundme raised over $57,000 of a $70,000 target.

Cyclist Killed in Boulder accident

17-year-old Magnus White of Boulder, Colorado is the young cyclist killed in an accident in the township last weekend.

Magnus White was on Team USA and was preparing for the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland when he was hit by a car.

“Magnus began racing at a national level when he was 10. He got into the racing scene because of his local team Boulder Junior Cycling, which really got him to fall in love with racing. The 2021-22 season was his first time racing at a UCI level as a first-year 17-18, where he accomplished some of his biggest goals. He won the 2021 USA Cycling National Championship then went straight over to race in Europe during the Christmas Block. His success in Europe earned him a spot on the 2022 World Championships team in Fayetteville.,” his profile on the Team USA website reads.

Boulder Co where Magnus White death occured is a “home rule city and the county seat of Boulder County, Colorado, United States. It is the largest city in Boulder County, with a population of 108,250 at the 2020 United States census, making it the 12th most populous city in Colorado,” according to Wikipedia.

“Boulder is the principal city of the Boulder, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and an important part of the Front Range Urban Corridor. Boulder is located at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of 5,430 feet (1,655 m) above sea level. The city is 25 miles (40 km) northwest of the Colorado state capital of Denver. Boulder is a college town, being home to the flagship campus of the University of Colorado, the state’s largest university,” the site adds.

In the wake of his death, a Gofundme has been organised in Magnus White honor.
