A teacher at Island Views Elementary School in Anacortes, WA, Caitlin Follstad is dead, reportedly murdered at the hands of her husband.

Police were called to a home on the 2200 block of J Avenue around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers arrived and found a 41-year-old woman dead with stab wounds, identified as Caitlin Follstad, a 5th-grade teacher with the Anacortes School District.

Follstad’s father-in-law had found her deceased in her and her husband’s home and called 911. He also told police that his son, Follstad’s husband, was suicidal and driving the Deception Pass Bridge.

After officers discovered Follstad’s body, they searched the remainder of the home and found the couple’s vehicle was missing.

Washington State Patrol troopers later found the vehicle on the center island of Deception Pass bridge.

The APD said Follstad’s husband, identified the victim’s husband as Kevin Follstad, 41, is considered a suspect in her murder.

Police have He has not yet been located him but are using search dogs from Snohomish County to help find him.

Superintendent Justin Irish and Principal Brian Hanrahan with the Anacortes School district described Follstad as a “cherished member of the Island View Elementary community,” whose passion for education brought her to the elementary school.

School officials said grief counselors and mental health specialists are available to students and staff affected by the loss.

“In honor of the tragic loss to the ASD family, the school has lowered its flags to half-mast as a solemn tribute and sign of respect and it will remain that way for the rest of the week,” Irish said on the district’s website on Wednesday.
