The first season Big Brother Naija show aired on DStv Channel 37 from 5 March to 4 June 2006.

In a twist to the game, two new contestants were introduced on Day 23, much to the excitement of the remaining housemates.

Ebuka, the most popular housemate for several weeks into the show and widely believed to emerge the winner was the seventh housemate to be evicted – with many viewers blaming the Joe’s Fan Club (JFC) for his eviction. Joe himself was soon evicted from the show.

Big Brother added another twist to the game on Day 79 by cancelling the day’s scheduled nominations and making the housemates believe they will instead be evicted based on their performances on assigned tasks, while in reality, no more evictions were held and viewers began voting for the winner who turned out to be 26-year-old Katung Aduwak.

Despite being the first to get a confirmation to be a contestant in the show, Katung didn’t enter the house with the initial 12 contestants. He came into the house after the second eviction alongside  and stormed to victory by winning about 80 per cent of the tasks.

Shortly after winning the reality show, Katung went on to study filmmaking at the Digital Film Academy in New York, relocating to the United States much like fellow housemate, Joseph Ada.

Currently pursuing his passion for filmmaking, he has produced and directed movies such as Unwanted Guest and Heaven’s Hell. He also directed a number of music videos for Chocolate City, Styl Plus and Gabriel Afolayan.

He also starred in EbonyLife TV’s drama series, Desperate Housewives.

Katung is currently the Senior Channel Manager MTV Base and an Executive Director at Chocolate City.
