Timothy Adegoke was a student of Obafemi Awolowo University and had travelled to Ile Ife, his examination at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro, Osun State.

He lodged at the Hilton Hotels and Resorts at Ile-Ife – owned by Dr Rahman Adedoyin – upon his arrival from Abuja.

However, he went missing and was found dead buried in a grave following a police investigation.

After a protracted trial, Abdul Rahman Adedoyin, owner of the hotel has been convicted for Adegoke’s murder.

Timothy Adegoke was a postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife who was murdered in November 2021.

The Timothy Adegoke story is a gruesome one. Adegoke was an Abuja-based Chartered Accountant who was studying for his master’s degree.

He was unfortunately murdered by Dr Rahman Adedoyin, the owner of the Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife.

The deceased travelled Ile-Ife on November 5, 2021, to write his MBA exams at the OAU Distance Learning Centre.

He was declared missing on November 7, 2021 after lodging into the hotel on November 5th 2023.

Later, his body was found in a shallow grave at a location very close to Hilton Hotel and Resorts, where he had been accommodated.

Police arrested Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of the hotel, and six of his staff for their involvement in the murder.

The Timothy Adegoke story – Adegoke and Dr Rahmon Adedoyin

An undergraduate of OAU and a receptionist at the Ile-Ife Hilton, Chiefuna, told the court that she discovered Adegoke’s lifeless body lying on the floor and wrapped in a duvet when she took over her duties on November 6, 2021.

Roheem Adedoyin, a son to Dr Raymond Adedoyin, the owner of the hotel, summoned her and other hotel workers on duty and conducted an oath of confidentiality on them using the holy bible.

They were to keep mute about the dead body to save the reputation of the hotel.

She said she was also asked to delete the photographs of the record book that she had taken during her duty on that day from her phone.

Adesola Adedeji, one of the receptionists who was on duty on the night Timothy Adegoke died, also revealed other attempts to cover up his death.

She told the High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, that Adegoke was lodged in Room 305 after she had received accommodation payment from him.

Adedeji also said that after Adegoke died, she was called to a meeting by Roheem Adedoyin, the managing director of the hotel, and was instructed to fabricate another receipt which would not reflect the name of the late student.

“I was at Ilesha when I received a call from Esther, one of the workers of the hotel, that there was an urgent meeting at the chairman’s house. I told her that I was not around to attend the meeting. Few minutes later, another person called me again, saying that I had to attend the meeting,” Adedeji said.

“When I enquired why I must attend the meeting, he said it was because a receipt was missing, then I said I didn’t know how it got missing. I later told Esther to send me the address of the chairman’s house and I went there.

“When I got there, Prince Roheem came to me and requested that I follow him to a place within the compound. After we got there, he told me that a receipt was missing, then I told him I didn’t know anything about the receipt because I balanced my account to the auditor before I left the hotel.

“Prince Roheem then told me that he was my boss and he would not lie to me, and that he would protect me. He gave me a blank receipt of the hotel and he wrote a name on a separate paper. He said I should write the name on the receipt and sign on the receipt.

“The name he wrote on the paper was ‘Adewale Lekan’ and nobody bears that name on the list of people lodged in the hotel on that day.

“I obliged because I felt they were trying to cover up a fraud, and since he is my boss and it was the hotel receipt and he said he was protecting me. After signing the receipt, he collected it back from me.

“We fabricated the receipt in Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin’s compound, although he was not within the place we had the discussion.”

After a lengthy trial into Adegoke’s death, the Osun State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo has declared that Dr Rahman Adedoyin, owner of Hilton Hotel Ile-Ife, should die by hanging.

Adegoke is survived by his wife, Bolatito, his aged mother and brother, Olugbade. This shows the sadness of the Timothy Adegoke story.

Timothy Adegoke Wife

Timothy Adegoke was married to his wife, Bolatito Adegoke. She publicly lamented the brutality with which her husband was killed.

“Even animals don’t kill themselves like the way my husband was killed.” she told BBC Yoruba.

“This suffering is too much for us. My husband only struggled to be well educated and his life was just cut short like that.”

“I cannot say or stop my husband from being educated. He went to Ife to sit for the examination regarding his MBA programme at OAU. My husband was struggling to earn a living and feed himself and our family only for him to end up being killed.

“His trip to Ife was the third one. He had been there two times on weekends for his MBA programme. He arrived Ile-Ife on November 5, 2021. He called me after he got to Ife, having boarded an aeroplane from Abuja to Akure.

“He called me when their plane landed in Akure airport before he travelled by road to Ile-Ife. Later, he called me when he got to the hotel at Ile-Ife and said he wanted to rest so that he can read his book ahead of the exam the following day.

“I didn’t call him again so that I will not disturb him during his reading time. The following morning, I called his phone number, it wasn’t going through and I kept calling till the next day, I couldn’t get through to him. I was very worried.

“I had to call his brother undergoing his NYSC service in Osun State, at Osogbo. Luckily, I got the receipt of his previous lodging in the hotel and snapped it with my phone and immediately sent it to my brother-in-law. He traced the hotel and located it at Ile-Ife.

“The same day, the parents of my husband called to raise an alarm that they too have been calling the phone number of my husband for days without getting through to him.

“When my brother-in-law got to the hotel to inquire about my husband, they denied that he lodged there, but through the transaction on his phone, we discovered that he transferred money to another person apart from myself. The person was later discovered to be one of the staff of the hotel, who is a lady.

“The lady was arrested by the Police, including five other staffers and they admitted that my husband lodged in Hilton Hotels and Resorts. They later confessed that he was dead and took the Police to where his remains were buried. They killed my husband and just buried him. They made him suffer.

“Nowhere is safe in this country again. I want the government to help me with my children so that my husband’s death would not be in vain. How can they just kill him like that? Even, animals don’t kill themselves like that. I want justice.

“The owner of the hotel sent an emissary to our lawyer saying he was ready to pay any amount of money so that the matter can be settled. But, the lawyer refused, insisting that no amount of money can replace the life of my husband, who was gruesomely murdered.

“The government should not allow this matter to be swept under the carpet by ensuring diligent investigation and bringing to justice all the people who conspired to kill my husband.” she said.

Timothy Adegoke Story – Dr Rahmon Adedoyin Sentenced

Rahmon Adedoyin is a Nigerian businessman, owner of the Hilton Hotel Ile-Ife, who was found guilty for the murder of Nigerian student Timothy Adegoke.

Dr Rahmon Adedoyin played his part in the Timothy Adegoke story and for that, was guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful killing of the deceased after a two year trial.

He was sentenced to death by hanging.

Adegoke had lodged in Hilton Hotels and Resorts at Ile-Ife upon his arrival from Abuja on November 5, 2021, to enable him to arrive early for his examination at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro, Osun State, on November 6 and November 7, 2021.

He later went missing and was found dead buried in a grave following a police investigation of the hotel owner, Dr Rahman Adedoyin and its workers.

According to Wikipedia: Rahmon Adegoke Adedoyin, M.D. (born January 1, 1957) is a Nigerian educationist and businessman who was sentenced to death by hanging on May 30th, 2023.

He is the founder and proprietor of Oduduwa University and The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife.

In an interview with Vanguard, Rahmon claimed that the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade had nominated him as the Ooni of Ife before his death because of “his developmental strides, particularly in the cradle of Yoruba land”.

Rahmon Adegoke was born into the royal family of the Akui ruling house in the ancient city of Ife in Osun State, where he went on to complete his primary and secondary school education.

He proceeded to the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 after studying Mathematics Education.

He also attended Centurion International University, California where he obtained his master’s degree and went on to bag a doctorate degree in 1996 from All Saints University School of Medicine, New York City.

In a bid to revamp education in Nigeria, Rahmon founded The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife in 1984 and Oduduwa University in 2009. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Statisticians.

Timothy Adegoke was a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University at the time of his death.

He was studying for his master’s degree.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government-owned university that is located in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.

The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola.

It was renamed “Obafemi Awolowo University” on 12 May 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose idea the university was.
