Naima Liggon was a 16-year-old American teenager who was stabbed and killed by a fellow teenager in a dispute over sweet and sour sauce.

Liggon was stabbed by a fellow 16-year-old after a fight broke out outside a Washington D.C MacDonalds over the sauces.

Naima Liggon was from Waldorf, Md and was a student of Thomas Stone High School in Charles County, Md.

She died Sunday, August 27th 2023 – the day before she was supposed to start the school year.

The perpetrator, whose identity has not been released, lunged at Liggon with a knife and stabbed her, leading to her death.

She was arrested and currently facing trial.

A detective with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) revealed in court that the killing of 16-year-old girl Naima Liggon from Maryland took place on the morning of Sunday, August 27th 2023 after she fought her ‘murderer’ over sweet and sour dipping sauce.

Det. Brendan Jasper testified at the arraignment of the 16-year-old girl accused that both girls were from Waldorf, Md.

Jasper said the teenagers met three other people in Oxon Hill, Md, then drove to D.C. to go to a party. After leaving the party, the group headed to McDonald’s, located in at the corner of 14th and U streets NW.

The three other people who were with the girls told police that after the group got back into the car, the 16-year-old girl got into a fight about sweet and sour dipping sauce with Naima Liggon.

Jasper said they got out of the car and that during the fight, the other girl stabbed Liggon in her abdomen and chest.

The three other people took Liggon to Howard University Hospital where she died.

They told police that the 16-year-old girl accused of killing Liggon left the scene of the stabbing on foot, with officers later finding her in the 1300 block of U St. NW with a black pocketknife believed to be the murder weapon.

“I am deeply saddened to share with you the news about the tragic loss of a Thomas Stone High School student. This afternoon, we learned about the passing of Naima Liggon,” Thomas Stone High principal Shanif Pearl said in a message to parents, staff and students Sunday following the tragedy.

“Naima passed earlier this morning and news of her passing has been made public.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, loved ones and all who knew her. We will have additional counselors and staff at school tomorrow to provide support to any student or staff member who needs help processing the news of Naima’s passing.

“I do not have any additional details about Naima at this time. This is a heartbreaking and tragic time for our school community. This is not the news a principal ever wants to share, let alone the day before we start a new school year.

“I ask that you please keep Naima’s family, friends, loved ones and our school community in your thoughts and prayers. If you or your child need help with grief counseling or any other assistance, please let me know,” the statement concluded.

A 16-year-old girl was charged with fatally stabbing another 16-year-old girl outside a McDonald’s on a busy D.C. nightlife corridor this weekend in a fight a police detective said stemmed from an argument about “sweet-and-sour sauce,” – the Washington Post reported.

“At the end of the day, someone is dead over a dispute over sauce,” D.C. Superior Court Judge Sherri Beatty-Arthur said, as she ordered the suspect held until another hearing Friday.

At a hearing in D.C. Superior Court on Monday, Detective Brendan Jasper testified that Liggon’s stabbing emanated from an argument over “sweet-and-sour sauce” among three girls outside a McDonald’s near 14th and U Streets NW just after 2 a.m.

Jasper testified that Liggon and another girl began hitting a 16-year-old, who security camera footage showed did not initially fight back.

But as Liggon and her friend tried to get in a vehicle, the other 16-year-old “lunged” at Liggon with a 7½-inch pocketknife, stabbing her in the chest and abdomen, the detective testified.

“It’s horrifying,” said Sabel Harris, who chairs an Advisory Neighborhood Commission that includes U Street between 11th and 14th streets.

“I walk by that McDonald’s almost every single day. My mind is just reeling from this.”

The 16-year-old, who was charged with second-degree murder while armed, pleaded not involved — the juvenile equivalent of not guilty.

“She was the only person who brought a knife to a fistfight,” prosecutor Priscilla Guerrero said.

Thomas Stone High School

Thomas Stone High School, where stabbed Maryland teen Naima Liggon used to attend, is a public high school in the eastern section of Waldorf, Maryland, United States, administered by the Charles County Board of Education.

The school colors are blue and gold and its mascot is the cougar. It was named after Thomas Stone, a Maryland representative in the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Thomas Stone was opened in 1969.

Like Henry E. Lackey High School, it was originally constructed with some classrooms underground.

It was renovated in the late 1990s, increasing its capacity from 1250 to 1600 students.

Thomas Stone is currently the third largest high school in Charles County, after North Point High School and St. Charles High School.
