Deion Patterson Atlanta Shooter Biography

Deion Patterson the Atlanta shooter was a discharged U.S. service member who carried out a mass shooting at an Atlanta medical centre in May 2023.

Deion Patterson is 24 years old. He was born in 1999 in the United States of America.

He joined the U.S. coast guard in July 2018 after his education. His last post was as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class before being discharged from active duty in January 2023.

Three months after his discharge, Deion Patterson became the Atlanta shooter, carrying out an active shooter incident at an Atlanta hospital.

Patterson had a medical appointment in the hospital when he became agitated, reports reveal.

In the waiting room of the medical centre, he became agitated and shot five women, killing one of them, Atlanta Police Department Chief Darin Schierbaum said.

The victims have been identified as five women – women aged 71, 56, 39 and 25 where shot and wounded whilst another 39-year-old was shot and killed.

Police carried out a manhunt for Patterson, leading to his arrest Wednesday evening.

According to reports, barking dogs were what ultimately helped police find him.

Witnesses told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution police were already on their street at a condo complex in Cobb County when a woman named Christy Colwell told officers about a local pool and washhouse deep in the woods.

“I thought that would be a great place for someone to hide out until dark,” Ms Colwell told the paper. “Ten seconds later, (police) came running back to us, told us to get on the grass, and then all of a sudden there were 30 police cars all heading down there.”

Advanced surveillance technology also played a “huge role” in capturing the gunman, police said on Wednesday.

Officials said a key break in the case came when investigators spotted a license plate number on a vehicle the gunman allegedly stole.

Those tools are what really got us the clues we needed to make this successful,” Cobb County police chief Stuart VanHoozer said during a press conference on Wednesday.

The police official said officers checked multiple locations including a construction site as they accumulated information about the suspect.

Eventually, Mr VanHoozer said, an undercover officer confronted the suspect, and officers were able to swoop in and arrest him without incident.

Deion Patterson shooting

An Atlanta mass shooting that left one person dead and four injured at a Midtown Atlanta medical center was carried out by Deion Patterson.

Just before 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, police said 24-year-old Deion Patterson had been taken into custody.

The shooting happened inside a waiting room at Laureate Medical Center on West Peachtree Street, between 12th and 13th Streets just after noon.

Of the four people who were shot and injured, three are in critical condition and one is in the emergency department, according to hospital officials. All four, who are 71, 56, 39 and 25, are women, officials said.

A 39-year-old woman was killed. The Centers for Disease Control, which is headquartered in Atlanta, identified her as one of their employees, Amy St. Pierre.

The CDC released a statement, saying, “CDC is deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of a colleague killed today in the Midtown Atlanta shooting. Our hearts are with her family, friends, and colleagues as they remember her and grieve this tragic loss.”

Police said Patterson used a handgun in the shooting, and had an appointment to be at the facility at the time.

Police believe Patterson fled the 11th floor of the hospital in the bustling Midtown commercial and residential district and carjacked a vehicle, which was later recovered in suburban Cobb County, north of the city.

Patterson was taken into custody “without incident” shortly before 8 p.m. at a condominium complex in suburban Cobb County outside of the city, concluding a chaotic, multi-agency search, Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHooze told reporters at a press conference.

The alleged killer appeared calm and docile as he was handcuffed and placed into the back of a law enforcement vehicle, aerial footage of the arrest from 11Alive shows.

He was notably wearing the same clothes he had on at the time of the shooting. He is being housed at the Cobb County Jail.
