Cynthia Okereke, veteran Nollywood actress has sadly died at the age of 63, multiple reports have confirmed.
Cynthia Okereke died in her sleep Tuesday, July 11th 2023, according to a post from the verified Twitter handle of colleague Joseph Okechukwu.
He shared a post and wrote: “REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words. The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come to finish what we started only to hear you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with in recent times.
“I pray I’m able to recover from this shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t. For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent, and lovely soul to be around,”
Cynthia Okereke was a beloved veteran actress who was loved for her roles in movies, often playing role of a good mother, grandmother, royal queen and mother-in-law in Nollywood movies.

Cynthia Nkiru Okereke was a Nigerian actress, television personality, entrepreneur and philanthropist who sadly passed away in July 2023.
She was 63 years of age.
Cynthia Okereke was born on April 20, 1960 in Enugu State.

Okereke rose to prominence after her role in the movie “King Jaja of Opobo” after delivering a staggering performance. From then on, her career soared, taking her to higher heights and establishing her as one of the main stars in Nollywood, particularly as she grew older and became the go-to for an elderly matriarch role.
Cynthia Okereke would go on to act in over 200 movies by the time of her death with her most notable movies including; King Jaja of Opobo, Osuofia in London, Second Chance, Coronation, Otollo, Sound of Love, Second Burial, Lion Finger, Hidden Tears, Mega Mama, Mr. Ibu’s Wedding Day, etc.

Colleague actor, Joseph Okechukwu announced the sad news in a post on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, July 12th 2023.
Okechukwu wrote that he was about to pay for Okereke’s flight ticket to come to America to finish a project they started, but he heard that she passed away the night before.
He wrote: “REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words. The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come to finish what we started only to hear you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with in recent times.

“I never imagined you’d exit so unceremoniously. Words fail me. Sleep on, Cynthia. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory.”
Cynthia Okereke death comes just about a year after she was kidnapped in Enugu alongside fellow actor Clemson Cornel.
In a shocking but welcoming twist of fate, the duo were later released unhurt by their abductors just several days after their disappearance.
Following her release, Cynthia Okereke revealed that she was without food and water for a whole week in the kidnappers’ den.
Social media was inundated with many messages of condolences following the announcement of Okereke’s passing. She was mourned by many fans and colleagues who expressed their shock and sadness over her demise.
According to unconfirmed reports, Cynthia Okereke had a net worth of around $200,000 by the time of her death.
