The board of the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse unanimously voted Wednesday, December 27th 2023 to fire Joe Gow after it was discovered he and his wife recorded adult content online.

Dr Joe Gow and Carmen Wilson Wisconsin go by the moniker of “S.*.xy Happy Couple” online and have an OnlyFans account.

An account on X (Twitter) directs people where to go to enjoy their “fully e.*.plicit scenes.”

Following his firing, Dr Gow has vowed not to take things lying down, arguing his adult career is protected under the First Amendment.

Carmen Wilson Wisconsin is the wife of Dr Joe Gow, the former Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse who got fired for being an adult film star.

Dr Gow and his wife Carmen had been living a double but not-so-secret life online where they shared adult content videos to adult sites.

The content was discovered, leading to Gow being fired from his highly respectable position.

As he records the videos with his wife, all eyes have turned on Carmen Wilson Wisconsin as folks scramble to learn more about her.

Carmen Wilson, 56, is the wife of ousted UW Wisconsin-La Crosse chancellor, Joe Gow.

An accomplished woman in her own right, Carmen Wilson Wisconsin was a previous professor at UW-La Crosse in the psychology department.

She previously served as provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at Dickinson State University in North Dakota, according to her CV, although she said in a podcast in 2020 that she was no longer serving in that role.

Whilst serving in the role as an associate professor of psychology at UW-La Crosse, she was chairwoman of the search committee that chose Gow as chancellor in 2006.

“He connected so well with the campus during his visit, his leadership style is inclusive and collaborative, and he is just what we need to help us move forward,” Carmen Wilson Wisconsin said.

She has also served as campus executive officer and dean at the University of Wisconsin-Rock County and was the “chancellor’s chief of staff and affirmative action officer” from 2008 to 2011 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

In that role, she coordinated analysis of a campus climate survey and was a “member of the Chancellor’s cabinet,”.

She also helped implement the university’s affirmative action policies.

As can be seen, Carmen Gow is no joke but a formidable woman herself.

Dr Joe Gow and Carmen Wilson Wisconsin tied the knot in 2014, according to a notice shared by the university at the time.

The notice was shared under the title “Congratulations, Chancellor Gow,” – and read: “UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow married Carmen Wilson, UW-Rock County dean, at the center of the Golden Gate Bridge Thursday, June 26.

“Both enjoy running, said Gow, so they decided to run from opposite sides of the famous San Francisco bridge and meet their officiant for the ceremony in the middle.

“Gow says soon a crowd caught on to what they were doing and stopped to watch and take pictures.

“Both love their jobs at UW-L and UW-Rock County and will continue to live in La Crosse and Janesville respectively,”

In December 2023, Dr Joe Gow was relieved of his duties at the UW-La Crosse.

“Upon my recommendation, the UW Board of Regents today terminated Dr. Joe Gow from his position as chancellor of UW-La Crosse effective immediately,” Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman said in a statement.

“In recent days, we learned of specific conduct by Dr. Gow that has subjected the university to significant reputational harm. His actions were abhorrent.

“As a tenured faculty member, Dr. Gow will be placed on paid administrative leave as he transitions into his faculty role at UW-La Crosse.

“However, I have filed a complaint this evening with interim Chancellor Betsy Morgan regarding Dr. Gow’s status as a tenured faculty member, asking that such status be reviewed.

“In addition, an outside law firm has been engaged to undertake a fulsome investigation of the matter. We anticipate the complaint will be considered in the normal course as dictated by Wis. Admin. Code Ch. 4,”

UW System Regent President Karen Walsh added: “This Board is charged with the stewardship of our great Universities of Wisconsin.

“Unfortunately, Dr. Joe Gow has shown a reckless disregard for the role he was entrusted with at UW-La Crosse to serve students, faculty and staff, and the campus community.

“The outrage over his behavior is evidenced by the unanimous vote by the UW Board of Regents to terminate him as chancellor.

“We are alarmed, and disgusted, by his actions, which were wholly and undeniably inconsistent with his role as chancellor,”

Meanwhile, a change.org petition was started to reinstate Joe Gow.

Started by student Cameron Seebruch, it read, perhaps tongue-in-cheek: “The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has lost our dear Chancellor Joe Gow as he was terminated unfairly on December 27th.

“Joe Gow should be able to continue his position at the university because the vids are low key good. Please sign this petition to reinstate our beloved P.*.rn Star Chancellor,”

What Carmen Wilson Wisconsin and Dr Joe Gow are accused of

Dr Joe Gow, 63, and his wife, Carmen Wilson Wisconsin, 56, appeared in online videos under the account “S*xy Happy Couple,”

Gow and his wife still have an active X page called @SexyHappyCouple which they describe as: “Passionate plant-powered couple cooking, conversing, and shooting with top adult video stars. Visit our LoyalFans and OnlyFans sites for fully explicit scenes!”

The cover photo shows them standing in a kitchen; the website is called “Sexy Healthy Cooking.”

The duo use the X account to promote their OnlyFans and LoyalFans side hustles, with one post reading: “If you’re on OnlyFans please check out our solo interview, sex scene and cooking demo.”

Carmen Wilson Wisconsin and Dr Joe Gow OnlyFans page reads, “Top adult video stars cook, converse and shoot sex scenes with a plant-powered couple. Please subscribe to have full access to complete episodes!”

According to the Daily Beast, the duo have written two books about their hobby under pseudonyms and also have a YouTube channel on which they cook vegan meals with well-known s*x performers and use their real names.

In an interview Thursday, Gow said the books and videos they made were produced as private citizens under their First Amendment rights, noting they didn’t refer to Gow’s position as chancellor.

According to him even if they did, they would be protected under the board’s policy on academic freedom and freedom of expression, adding the policy protects ideas even if people disagree or find them “repugnant.”

“I think the board’s reaction should concern everybody who cares about free speech and free expression,” Gow said.

“I think they should have said, ‘We don’t really like what this is all about, but he and his wife have the right to put out these books and videos, and we have a freedom of expression policy that maintains that.'”

The policy states that members of the university community may not obstruct or interfere with the freedom of others “to express views they reject or even loathe.”

The policy also states one must make clear they’re speaking on behalf of oneself, not the institution.

Gow said he’s uncertain whether he’ll challenge or sue over his firing, saying he’s still processing the decision.

In one of the books the couple wrote under pseudonyms, they indicated they knew they would face severe consequences if their hustle was discovered.

“We think our s*x is beautiful and have no qualms at all about other people watching us make love. But our establishment colleagues likely would be shocked to watch us complete the full carnal process—particularly with professional porn stars—and we’re fairly certain we’d be shunned in our community,” they wrote.

“Our careers likely would be ruined, and what’s worse is that the lives of our families and friends also could be impacted significantly, and not in a positive way.

“So, as much as we’d like to be as honest with everyone else as we’ve been with ourselves about our sexuality, we feel compelled to keep our unconventional lifestyle hidden,”

Dr. Joe Gow served as the 10th Chancellor of UW-La Crosse.

Throughout his administrative career, Dr. Gow consistently furthered liberal arts and professional academic programs to enhance student success.

He has a wealth of experience from both public and private universities in strategic planning, enrollment management, external relations, and fundraising.

Dr. Gow also has led efforts to redesign curricula, strengthen shared governance, and promote highly inclusive and diverse campus communities.

Gow served as the President of the National Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences and as a member of the editorial board of the journal Popular Music and Society.

He has authored a number of publications on popular music and news media, and serves on the boards of several civic organizations in the La Crosse area.

In his spare time he is a guitarist and blues singer. He also is a vegan and runner.

Dr. Gow received his B.A. degree in Journalism from Penn State in 1982; his M.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Alabama in 1985; and his Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Penn State in 1989.

He also completed the Management Development Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in 1998.

Career

Professional history

Previously, he served as both the Interim President (2006) and Provost (2004-2006) of Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

And earlier in his career Chancellor Gow was the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Minnesota’s Winona State University (2001-2004), as well as both the Associate Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences (1996-2001) and the Director of the Communication Studies Program (1990-2001) at Alfred University in Upstate New York.

While at Alfred he was a three-time recipient of the Alfred University Excellence in Teaching Award.
