“He was generous with his time and knowledge, encouraging many (including me) to pick up a camera and give it a go.

“His epic and beautifully printed book Photographing the Night Sky, published by FotoVue, is encyclopaedic and will be picked up by astrophotographers for years to come. The legacy from his tragically short life will endure for years to come,”

Numerous responses hailed the impact Alyn Wallace had before his death.

“That’s shocking to hear, so very sad, especially given his young age. His astrophotography, YouTube channel and book really were an inspiration,” Mike wrote.

“So desperately sad. I don’t know what to say. I’ve spent many hours under the dark skies of his favoured mid-Wales locations. The Elan Valley provided a particular kinship, a great sense of connection. Unbelievable,” another comment read.

“I wasn’t a close friend of Alyns but he inspired me with his incredible passion for Astro Photography. I was fortunate to get to spend two weeks in Antarctica with him and he was the nicest guys you could possibly meet. He was always willing to share his knowledge but what I really admired was is humility. He never considered himself an elite Astro photographer but those of you who read his recent book would realise that to be untrue.

“His knowledge was truely inspiring. Today the photography world lost one of its most incredible leading lights. I offer my deepest sympathy to Alyn’s family and close friends. Alyn’s impact on his craft will last forever. Rest in peace mate!”

“In the 50 years since humans landed on the Moon the human population has more than doubled. Cities are bigger and brighter than ever and even towns and villages are becoming more illuminated,” the caption to the video read.

“Making matters worse, orange-yellow sodium bulbs are now being replaced by blue-rich, white LED bulbs which have a much more disruptive effect on the circadian rythms of humans and wildlife, the migratory patterns of birds and the balance of the food chain,”
