Singer Madonna has lost her brother, Anthony Ciccione, who passed away at the age of 66 on February 24th 2023.

The singer’s brother Anthony Ciccone died at age 66 on Feb. 24, according to an Instagram tribute from Joe Henry, who is married to Madonna’s sister Melanie Ciccone.

“My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, exited this earthly plane last evening,” Joe shared on Feb. 25. “I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone.”

Posting a black-and-white photo of Anthony, Joe continued, “As brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can. But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on.”

Noting that “trouble fades,” the singer and songwriter said that “family remains— with hands reached across the table.”

Madonna has yet to speak out on social media about the death of her brother Anthony and his cause of death has not been shared.

Anthony Ciccione is an older brother of legendary pop singer Madonna, who was born Madonna Louise Ciccone.

Madonna’s older brother died after battling an undisclosed ailment, with the family announcing his passing in February 2023.

Ciccone reportedly went through a hard life where he suffered with alcoholism and homelessness.

His brother-in-law, Joe Henry, wrote in tribute: “Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I’d like to think that the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you.

“At least for today, no one will dissuade me from this vision.”

Family friend Debi Mazar also left a heartfelt message following his death.

“I have such fond memories of time spent with Anthony back in the late 80’s. A real Renaissance Man,” the Entourage actress wrote on Instagram on February 26.

“Full of prose, lover of literature, his Italian Heritage, good wine & cooking. He would drive his 1960’s Cadillac over to my Brooklyn apartment in a snow storm, bring a pot of his freshly prepared Ragu, and all the fixin’s, and we would cook & laugh and talk all night.”

Their mother, Madonna Ciccone, died after a battle with breast cancer at the age of 33 in 1963.

Anthony, meanwhile, had long struggled with alcoholism and was reportedly homeless for several years.

At one point he lived under a bridge in Michigan.

In December 2017, the Daily Mail reported that Anthony had completed a programme at a rehabilitation center, and was later reunited with his family at home.

Years earlier, Anthony had previously spoken out against Madonna and the rest of his family, accusing them of not caring about him.

“I’m a zero in their eyes, a non-person, I’m an embarrassment. If I froze to death, my family probably wouldn’t know or care about it for six months,” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“My dad would be very happy if I died of hypothermia, so he wouldn’t have to worry about it any more.

“He’s old school, he grew up in the Depression.”

He also spoke of his strained relationship with Madonna.

“I never loved her in the first place, she never loved me, we never loved each other,” Anthony Ciccone reportedly said in 2011.
