Shooting in Cary Il – Police Launch Manhunt for Suspects

A shooting in Cary Il between two vehicles on the night of Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 has led to a hunt for two male suspects.

Cary Police say the incident occurred in the area of Cary-Algonquin Road and Harper Avenue.

Occupants of one car shot at another car and then fled on foot, according to a Cary Police Department news release.

Cary PD says they are looking for two male suspects aged between 16 and 22.

The Cary Police Department released a statement at 11:40 p.m. Saturday that police are investigating the incident in the area of Cary-Algonquin Road and Harper Avenue. Officials suspect occupants of a car shot at another car and then fled on foot.

Suspects are described as males between the ages of 16 and 22, police officials said in the release.

Police used multiple police K-9s and a drone to search for the suspects whilst warning residents in the certain subdivisions to lock doors, remain inside and report suspicious activity.

The subdivisions named include Country Commons, Fox Trails, Sienna Point, Greenfields, Cimarron and Cambria.

“We believe at least one of the offenders may still be armed with a firearm,” Cary Police officials said in the release.

Police Activity Alert

Saturday March 23, 2024 @ 11:40 p.m.

“There is currently a heavy police presence in the area of Cary-Algonquin Rd. and Harper Ave.

“Police are investigating an incident involving occupants of a vehicle shooting a firearm at another vehicle.

“The occupants of the offending vehicle fled the area on foot. The occupants of the offending vehicle are described as black males between the ages of 16 and 22.

“There are multiple police K9 units and a drone in the area attempting to locate the offenders.

“If you reside in Country Commons, Fox Trails, Sienna Point, Greenfields, Cimarron, or the Cambria subdivision, please lock your doors, remain inside, and call 911 to report any suspicious activity.

“We believe at least one of the offenders may still be armed with a firearm,”

This report comes on the heels of a similar recent shooting in Bay Shore, Long Island that led to the death of a 19 year old Sean Mills.

Sean Mills was a 19-year-old kid shot and killed by an unknown assailant during a party on Bay Shore, Long Island on Friday.

The party came off around 9 p.m on Friday, March 23rd 2024 at 1320 Ackerson Blvd. with approximately 50 people.

Neighbors told News 12 that the homeowner runs a day care out of the property and was having a farewell party to celebrate it being sold however, the party turned violent.

A shooting broke out and Sean Mills was fatally struck in the head. Another teen, a 17-year-old girl, was injured in the attack.

Sean Mills was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to his family, Sean Mills had big dreams – his room filled with past accomplishments and future goals.

One of his older brothers, James Mills, says he was well on his way.

“What he really wanted to do was become, you know, a fighter because he was good at fighting at that’s what he wanted to do. Like he was training in MMA,” he said.

James said his brother had been receiving some threats on social media and had only gone to the party because a flyer promoting it specifically stated that no weapons would be allowed.

“I don’t know how people like that are still walking around doing all these heinous, crazy acts,” his brother, James said.

He added a warning about attending house parties.

“If it’s a house party, don’t be going to no house party, because a lot of people that don’t like you would be there…there’s like all types people, you got no idea who they are, no clue who they are,” he added.

Cary is a village located in Algonquin Township, McHenry County, Illinois, and Cuba Township, Lake County, Illinois, United States.

Per the 2020 census, the population was 17,826.

In 1841, William Dennison Cary purchased 82 acres (33 ha) for $1.25 an acre at the location of the current town and built a farm.

In 1856, Cary included a train station for the Illinois & Wisconsin Railway which connected Cary to Chicago and Janesville.

The site was approved and a post office was added with the designation “Cary Station.” The community around Cary Station was incorporated in 1893 as Cary, Illinois.

Cary is mainly served by Community High School District 155 for high school students, specifically by Cary-Grove High School and Prairie Ridge High School, and School District 26 for elementary and middle school students.

Some portions of Cary also are served by Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 and Community Unit School District 300.
