Godwin Okri is the ex-husband of popular Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama who she split from about five years ago.
Inyama has resparked interest in her marriage after revealing her husband used to abuse her simply for the fact that his favourite team, Manchester United (Man U), had lost.
She told Chude on his show that she now thanks God everytime she sees Man U lose a match because previously that would have ended very badly for her.
So who is Godwin Okri, Victoria Inyama husband and how did their marriage crash?
Who is Godwin Okri?
Godwin Okri (also reported as Godwin Okrim) is a celebrated Nigerian lawyer who is Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama ex husband.
Following the Victoria Inyama wedding to her husband, she relocated to the United Kingdom, but her troubles were just beginning.
According to the actress, her husband was abusive both physically and psychologically and made her life a living hell throughout their marriage.
In an interview with UK-based mental health advocate Malin Anderson, Victoria Inyama revealed how Godwin Okri abused her endlessly and threatened to kill her if she failed to do his bidding.
The actress also recalled getting arrested by her ex-husband while trying to protect herself and her three kids.
She added that even when she opted for divorce, her ex-husband turned it down and also insisted that she is his property.
Victoria Inyama said: “I was scared because he would tell me ‘I know a lot of people in prison, my clients that owe me a lot of favour because they didn’t do long term and I’ll just waste you and nothing is going to happen.’ At that point I just told him that I’m ready to die, I’m not coming back to you, he said alright, we will see about that.
“He would bring his girlfriends to my house to drop off the kids and one day I said can we just go for a divorce and he said you can’t divorce me, I own you, you are my property, divorce me? I said you’ve moved on, you are living with another woman in your house, he said ‘so? you are not in my house anymore, there has to be a woman in my house’ and I requested a divorce.
”He went on to say ‘first of all you cant divorce me and second of all, which man is going to want a woman with three kids? Oh, you think its because you’ve gone to the university that you think you are now intelligent? You are not intelligent.
“I was arrested in front of my kids and locked up for 12 hours. That was my most humiliating moment in life.”
She added that aside abusing her, he also abused their kids as he once fed their son a food he was allergic to and also dislocated the arms of their daughter.
On Valentine’s Day 2018, Victoria Inyama announced that she had finally gotten the separation she had been fighting for from her husband Godwin Okrim and that it hadn’t been easy.
She wrote: “What’s on my mind hmmmmmmmm. Happy to be alive. Healthy……. getting better…brighter….standing up for myself……regardless of d demon in human form that I have to deal with…………… legion lawyer……….. If not for God……..psychotic beast with his Never ending drama……. he wouldn’t even grant her a divorce………… and d poor b*tch living with him……..May God give her sense……….. she’s so dumb ……………….miserable pair…..”
One of her friends, Mandy Okosi commented and Victoria Inyama went on to share more details.
She revealed further: ”D bondage is sickening and all his legal antics. They saw the law is fair but not when he manipulates it like he does. He has a live in lover and still wouldn’t divorce me! He asaulted me yesterday and d first time, I called the police on him”.

Victoria Inyama also told Chude Jideonwo more of the traumatic experiences she faced married to husband Godwin Okri including physical violence and why she now hates Manchester United.
“My ex-husband was physically, mentally, and psychologically abusing me. When my husband hit me for the first time, I didn’t believe it, I was in shock,” she began.
She said: “I hate Manchester United, ehn. The number of beatings wey dem beat me because Man United lose match ehn. Even up to today when there is a football match and Man U loses, I am like ‘Thank God, today would have been a beating day.’ Even my son knows and would be laughing.”
The actress said that the abuse extended beyond physical violence, to include instances where her ex-husband would bring his girlfriends into their home, allowing them to dictate household matters.
She recalled one incident where a girlfriend of Godwin Okrim even instructed her on what to cook, undermining her autonomy in her own home.
Inyama recalled: “Oh wow, yes. There was even one instance where the girl was telling me what to cook. saying that I should not be cooking meat; I should use fish because it’s healthier.”
Irrespective of the abuse, the actress said she never fought back because herr home training had brainwashed her.
In her words: “I grew up in the village so I believed in all those things, you know the full moon right? One day I think I had just had it up to my neck so I went out, looked up to the moon and said, ‘God. if you don’t do something about this marriage, I don’t know how you’re going to do it. But if I don’t leave alive, one person will leave dead, because I was thinking that what if this guy hits me and I hit my head somewhere and I collapse.
“I was never a fighter, so I never fought back because didn’t think that it was the right thing to do,”

Following her coming out, Victoria Inyama husband Godwin Okrim was charged for assaulting her and was also disbarred by the Bar Standard Board, a regulatory body for barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales, for dishonest conduct.
In a press statement which was released on February 22, 2018, the BSB revealed what led to the final decision by a tribunal to disbar Okri.
“Unregistered barrister Godwin Okri was ordered to be disbarred from the Bar of England and Wales at an independent disciplinary tribunal hearing held on Wednesday 21 February 2018, following charges brought by the Bar Standards Board.
The decision comes following dishonest and discreditable conduct on Mr Okri’s part in 2004 whilst he was acting in a conveyancing transaction as a solicitor. Mr Okri acted for both seller and buyer where a conflict of interest existed without the written consent of both parties.
In the process Mr Okri breached Money Laundering Regulations, ignored a Solicitors Regulation Authority warning on property fraud, and dishonestly assisted a third party in securing a property for substantially less than its market value.
Mr Okri was also found to have failed to cooperate with the Bar Standards Board (BSB) as he failed to notify the BSB when he was struck off the roll of solicitors in 2009.
Speaking about Wednesday’s Bar tribunal, a BSB spokesperson said: “This finding serves as a reminder to barristers that their professional conduct when practising as solicitors, or indeed as any other legal professionals, will be taken into account when considering their membership of the Bar. The tribunal’s decision to disbar Mr Okri reflects the seriousness of his actions when acting as a solicitor.
The tribunal’s decision is open to appeal.
Mr Okri was called to the Bar in 1995 by Lincoln’s Inn. He has never practised as a barrister in England and Wales.”
