Biography
Karim-David Adeyemi (born 18 January 2002) is a German professional footballer who plays as a forward for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team.
Adeyemi was born in Munich, Germany, to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother. He is a youth international for Germany, having represented the German under-16s, under-17s and under-21s.
Karim made his debut for the Germany senior team in a 6–0 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification win over Armenia on 5 September 2021, coming on as a late substitute and scoring his side’s sixth goal in the first minute of second-half injury time.
Since 2021 till present, Adeyemi has won four caps for Die Mannshaft.
Career
Adeyemi played as a youth for TSV Forstenried, and at the age of eight he joined local Bundesliga side FC Bayern München in 2010.
Due to an impasse in negotiating his continued stay at the club, there was a dispute and Adeyemi eventually had to leave the club, which meant that he joined SpVgg Unterhaching in 2012.
After progressing through the youth departments, he made his debut in March 2018 for the U19 team in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga (Under 19 Bundesliga).
He scored his first goal in this league in April 2018 in a 2–3 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt U19.
Prior to the 2018–19 season, Adeyemi was signed by Austrian club FC Red Bull Salzburg where he signed a three-year contract.
He was subsequently loaned out to their feeder club FC Liefering for the season, making his 2. Liga debut on 1 September 2018 against Austria Lustenau, where he played the full game as Liefering lost 1–0.
On 1 December 2020, he scored his first Champions League goal in a 3–1 away win over Lokomotiv Moscow during the 2020–21 season.
Karim Adeyemi joined German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in May 2022, signing a five-year contract running till June 2027.
On 5th October 2022, he scored his first Champions League goal with Borussia Dortmund in a 4–1 away win over Sevilla. On 15 February 2023, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory over Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16.

On February 15th 2023, Karim Adeyemi scored the only goal as Dortmund beat Chelsea 1-0 then attributed his blinding speed to fufu in a post-match interview.
The 21-year-old’s goal was the difference as the German side recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday evening.
Adeyemi latched on to the ball in his own area after a corner kick had been clear and run almost the full length of the pitch to score.
He blitzed past Enzo Fernandes as if he wasn’t there, rounded Kepa Arrizabalaga in Chelseas’goal then cooly slotted home the winner.
After the match, Karim Adeyemi received lots of plaudits for his speed leading a journalist to ask him how to be as fast as he is.
“I eat a lot of African foods but I have good genetics from my dad. [The food] is called Fufu from Nigeria,” he said when asked about which food makes him as fast.
Opening up further on his brilliant solo goal, Adeyemi stated: “The only thing I was thinking [against Enzo Fernandez] was that I just need to get the ball past him. You just try to win your duels, the goalkeeper came out and there may have been a bit of luck, but I’m delighted with the goal.
“The win tonight was crucial and it was unbelievable to play in front of these fans. We wanted to give Chelsea a tough game from start to finish and we’ve won.”
