Alwen Hughes was born on December 26, 1931 in north London, before growing up in Wales. She is a jeweller and sculptor.

Hughes is still alive in 2023 when Rolf died, although she is confined to a wheelchair due to battling Alhzeimer’s disease.

She is 91 years old.

Rolf Harris and his wife are both known to have affection for poodles.

Rolf Harris was found guilty of a string of indecent assaults between 1968 and 1986 following a trial in 2014 – and was jailed for five years and nine months.

Known for being frail for a number of years, there were fears raised at the time of Harris’ sentencing that the decision could further damage Hughes’ health.

Alwyn Hughes is known to have stood by her Rolf Harris as a good wife, supporting him during his lengthy trial in 2014.

Five years ago, after a jury failed to reach a verdict during a retrial against Harris, the Tie Me Kangaroo Down singer’s solicitor read a statement from him saying: “Whilst I am pleased that this is finally over, I feel no sense of victory — just relief.

“I am 87 years old, my wife is in ill health and we simply want to spend our remaining time together.”

Speaking shortly after Harris’ conviction, singer Vince Hill said Harris was the sole carer of Alwen, who — then aged 82 — he described as being “in a terrible state”.

Hill, then 77, told The Sunday People in 2014: “Alwen is very poorly. We’re all very worried about her.

“I don’t know if she will survive his prison term. She’s quite fragile. She suffers from arthritis and she’s had hip-replacements and God knows what.”

Harris’s daughter Bindi was, according to Hill, worried her mother could “drop down dead from the stress of the trial” at the time.

Bindi Harris works as an abstract artist currently.

In 2014, Harris was jailed for five years and nine months following his conviction for historic sexual abuse against four girls dating back to the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Rolf Harris Jail

Rolf Harris was convicted of 12 indecent assaults in 2014 and sent to jail for five years.

The charges primarily involved sexual misconduct against minors and young women, including his daughter’s friend.

Harris was first arrested in 2012 in the wake of the Jimmy Savile sexual abuse scandal as part of the police investigation Operation Yewtree which looked into sexual abuse allegations.

When questioned in May 2013 over historical allegations of sexual offences, he denied any wrongdoing and was subsequently bailed without charge.

However, he was arrested later that year in August and charged with nine counts of indecent assault from the 1980s and four counts alleging production of indecent child images in 2012.

Following a trial at Southwark Crown Court, in 2014 Harris was sentenced over 12 counts of indecent assault on four female victims during the 1970s and 1980s.

Aged 84, he was handed a prison sentence totalling five years and nine months.

Sentencing him, Mr Justice Sweeney said Harris had shown “no remorse” for his crimes, adding: “Your reputation now lies in ruins, you have been stripped of your honours but you have no one to blame but yourself.”

In statement released in the book Rolf Harris: The Defence Team’s Special Investigator Reveals the Truth Behind the Trials by William Merritt, he said: “I understand we live in the post truth era and know few will want to know what really happened during the three criminal trials I faced – it’s easier to condemn me and liken me to people like Savile and Glitter.

“I was convicted of offences I did not commit in my first trial. That is not just my view but the view of the Court of Appeal who overturned one of my convictions. I had already served the prison sentence by the time of the appeal.

“I changed my legal team after the first trial, and I was told that if the truth was out there, William (Merritt) would find it and he did.”

Rolf Harri wife, Alwyn Hughes, stood firm by him whilst he went to jail.
