A young Nigerian woman, Ifeoma Amuche has emerged as the best graduating student at South West University, Chongqing, China.
Amuche was chosen as the best out of more than 9,500 students, and as a result of her great feat, was chosen on behalf of all the international students, to make a speech.
The young graduate disclosed this on her Twitter handle on Thursday, as she dedicated her success to Nigeria and her hometown, Oko.
“Out of 9500+ graduates, I was the only international student selected to give a speech on behalf of all graduates, I’m so honoured. I’m here for Nigeria, I’m here for my hometown Oko,” she tweeted.
Ifeamo Amuche delivered her speech in perfect Mandarin.
The Nigerian student hails from Oko in Anambra State and has been studying for her undergraduate in Chinese Language and Literature at South West University, Chongqing, China since 2019.
Ifeoma was a student of Federal Polytechnic Oko. She studied Library and Information Science before she left Nigeria for China. Her Chinese name is 陈悦, she is a native of Eziabo Village of Oko Community in Orumba North LGA, Anambra State.
Prior to travelling abroad, she worked in the Dangote refinery in Lagos as a Chinese translator for a year, and later worked in Sinoki LTD Abuja as a Secretary and a Chinese translator, according to Ifeoma Amuche’s LinkedIn page.

Meanwhile, reacting to Amuche’s success, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) said Nigerians bear marks of success around the globe.
“VIDEO: Nigerian Student Ifeoma Amuche emerges best graduating student in South West University, China. Hear her deliver a speech on behalf of international students. Nigerians bear the mark of success anywhere! We are Nigerians and we are Champions,” NOA wrote.
Labour Party Presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, also congratulated Ifeoma Amuche for her achievements.
“I congratulate Miss Ifeoma Amuche, a Nigerian student who recently emerged as Best Graduating Student at South West University, China. It takes immeasurable hard work and dedication to achieve such an academic feat, and stand out from the crowd,” Obi wrote.
