Suara was born in the late 1940s – approximately 1948 making him 75 years of age at the time of his death.

Yemi Adeyemi Suara was born into a family with diverse spiritual beliefs.

His childhood was influenced by both traditional religion and Christianity as his father was a herbalist and seer whilst his mother was a devoted member of the Cherubim and Seraphim church

At his father’s death, he passed his ancestral knowledge to Saura, leading the actor to embrace both traditional and Christian practices, seeing them as complementary rather than contradictory.

Yemi Adeyemei Saura’s journey into acting began at a tender age when he fell in love with drumming and theatrical performances.

Despite his father’s initial objections, who had envisioned a career as a policeman for his son, Saura’s passion for the arts prevailed.

His talent was evident from his first stage performance, earning him accolades as a natural performer.

Determined to become an actor, Yemi Adeyemi Saura attended the University of Ile Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied theatre arts.

After his education, he joined the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as a producer and director.

In the Super Story series, Oh Father! Oh Daughter!, Yemi Adeyemi played Saura, a polygamist with popular actresses Bukky Wright and Sola Shobowale as his first and second wives respectively.

Other roles include a television series called ‘The Village Headmaster’. He played the role of a teacher who was fond of cracking jokes. He later appeared in other NTA productions, such as ‘Second Chance’, ‘Checkmate’, and ‘Ripples’.

He told Punch in an interview: “After I began to work at NTA, I was given a car. I went to my father’s house and he was the first person to enter my car. He asked where I got the vehicle from and I told him that it was from doing drama.

“I made him sit at the back of my car and he was almost prostrating to me, asking me to forgive him. I explained to him that it was a very lucrative career especially if one went to the university to study it.

“I took him to my apartment as well at GRA Agodi, Ibadan. When he saw the way the apartment was furnished, he was overwhelmed. He was very happy. When he saw my picture with Wole Soyinka, he shouted and asked me about my relationship with the professor, then I told him that Soyinka was our head of department.

“He asked again if acting was very lucrative and I answered affirmatively. From that day, he became my friend.

“My father would come to pay me a visit on a Friday and would not leave my house until Sunday. All the other siblings were envious but I did not mind,”

Death

Yemi Adeyemi Suara died on Sunday, September 24th 2023.

His family announced his death with a statement.

“IT IS WITH A HEAVY HEART BUT WITH TOTAL SUBMISSION TO GOD THAT WE ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF OUR BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, BROTHER, UNCLE, OLUYEMI LAWRENCE ADEYEMI (SUARA) WHO WENT TO BE WITH THE LORD ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2023.

“WE ARE CONSOLED BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT HE HAS GONE TO REST. WE KINDLY REQUEST THAT THE FAMILY BE ALLOWED SOME PRIVACY IN THIS TIME OF GRIEF. MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE BURIAL WILL BE COMMUNICATED SOON.
