Wizkid Essence Song Deserved to Win Grammy Song of the Year – Nicki Minaj Says

American rappers Nicki Minaj and Joe Budden have both endorsed Wizkid‘s Essence song to win ‘song of the year’ at the Grammy awards.

Speaking in an interview together, the two said the song deserves the award but it might not get it due to coming from a black man.

The two were speaking about the lack of representation Africans have on the board of the Grammys.

Due to this lack of representation, they argued black songs are overlooked for Grammys.

“We need people on the Grammy board who know that Essence was song of the year,” Joe Budden said.

Nicki Minaj replied: “Right..you want to know what’s so funny, we should have our own Grammy board,”

The Grammy, like the Oscars, is run by an Academy which has little representation of African Americans hence their movies and songs are often overlooked for the awards.

The duo are calling for change and holding up Wizkid’s song as an example is a huge plus for him.
