Police identified three victims of a wrong-way crash that took the lives of three people in Fountain Hills on Sunday.
The three, Victor Perez Coralles, 25, Emilia Rodriquez, 42, and Jesus Guadalupe Nunez-Rodriquez, 26, all of Mesa, died in the crash.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that impairment may have contributed to two vehicles colliding head-on with each other on State Route 87 near Shea Boulevard.
In a statement, DPS said a 39-year-old Mesa man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche south in the northbound lanes when another driver in a Chevrolet Tahoe noticed him going the wrong way and took action to move into the right shoulder and avoid hitting the Avalanche.
This driver looked back and noticed the headlights of a Ford F-150 truck driving near them had disappeared. After passing the Tahoe, the Avalanche hit the F-150.
The driver of the Avalanche sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
The driver of the F-150 is also being treated at the hospital for serious injuries. Three passengers in her vehicle died.
