Jason Lee McDuffy has been identified as a Beckley West Virginia man who was shot and killed by police following a police chase on Tuesday.
McDuffy, 44, was driving a Chevrolet pickup pulling a stolen trailer when Giles County deputies attempted to stop him.
He refused their commands, drove away and entered Montgomery County, where after being stopped, he pulled out a gun, leading to an officer gunning him down.
It all began Monday after a trailer was reported stolen from Narrows and McDuffy was spotted pulling that trailer with his pickup on Tuesday.
When pulled over by the Giles County Sheriff’s Office deputies, as well as officers of Narrows and Pearisburg Police, he refused to get out of the truck and instead drove into Montgomery County, where officers from several jurisdictions picked up the pursuit.
Even having his vehicle’s tires spiked using Stop Sticks to deflate the tires, did not deter the fleeing suspect.
The pursuit continued onto Route 114, where the vehicle was stopped.
Police say McDuffy continued to refuse instructions and at this point even pulled out a gun, leading police to shoot.
Police say no officers were hurt during the incident.
Virginia State Police, at the request of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, are conducting the investigation.
