Who was Bethany Ann Israel? Lakeville Pregnant Woman Murdered by Her Brother, Jack Joseph Ball

Bethany Israel, a pregnant woman who was found dead in a home in Lakeville was killed by her brother, identified by police as Joseph Ball, of Farmington.

Israel, 30, was dismembered by her brother, who claimed it was because she was ‘no longer innocent’. Ball, 23, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Bethany was between 17 and 18 weeks pregnant at the time her brother murdered her.

According to the criminal complaint, Bethany and her brother had dinner at a residence along Encina Path, located in the area of Pilot Knob Road and 170th Street West on the border of Lakeville and Farmington on Thursday.

Her family got concerned when she had not returned home late into the night and called the police.

A family member who drove to the venue of the dinner ‘observed Ball quickly leaving the scene’.

When the family member entered the home, they saw a “significant amount of blood” and called police. Officers who responded found “bloody knives and several dismembered body parts” they believed to be from Israel, the complaint said.

Police say an alert was put out for Ball’s vehicle, which was located shortly after in Rosemount.

The complaint says officers while were searching for Ball, a Rosemount resident observed on their home security camera a man place “what appeared to be a body part” on their front step.

After a brief search, Ball was located in the backyard of a neighboring home.

Ball was suffering from a wound to his neck that appeared to be self-inflicted, the complaint said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Journals and handwritten papers belonging to Ball indicated that he was angry his sister was pregnant because she was “no longer innocent,” a criminal complaint states.

Ball made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon and had his bail set at $2 million or $1 million with conditions.

He’s scheduled to have another hearing on June 10.

A fundraiser for Israel read: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely departure of Bethany Israel, who left us on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024.
