Travis Ikeguchi is a 27-year-old American male from Cedar Glen, California who killed store owner Laura Ann Carleton in the pride flag shooting of 2023.

Ikeguchi tore down a rainbow or pride flag hanging outside Carleton’s Mag.pi clothing store and when she came out to confront him, he shot and killed her.

Following the murder of Carleton, Ikeguchi fled the scene on foot but was tracked by several witnesses who informed police of his description and whereabouts.

According to authorities, when officers tracked down Travis Ikeguchi he opened fire on them, leading to an armed confrontation in which he was killed.

No deputies were injured in the firefight.

Details of all these, as well as Ikeguchi’s rabid anti-LGBT posts on social media, were released by officials of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in a press conference held Monday, August 21..

San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus told reporters: “Investigators determined that prior to the shooting the suspect tore down a Pride, or rainbow, flag that was hanging in front of the store and yelled many homophobic slurs toward Carleton,”

Authorities found Ikeguchi walking east on Torrey Road, near Rause Ranch Road after the shooting.

When deputies attempted to arrest him, Travis reportedly fired several shots in their direction, striking their patrol vehicles.

“Deputies returned fire and struck the suspect,” Dicus continued “Despite life-saving measures, Ikeguchi succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”

The shooting had not come out of the blue for Travis Ikeguchi.

Contents of his social media posts have shown he helda deep hatred against the LGBT community, the pride flag and other anti-government and anti-authority views, writing in a self-authored social media bio that he’s “Anti-freemasonry, Anti-zionism, Anti-jesuits, and Anti-paganism, same-sex marriage should be abolished”

Mara Rodriguez, SBCSD’s public information officer, said: “The content of Ikeguchi’s social media posts contained posts critical to the LGBTQIA community,”

Some of the posts unearthed from Ikeguchi’s online accounts so far contain disturbing imagery of violence against the LGBT and particularly the pride flag.

In a pinned post from January 2021 on his GAB account, he shared a burning pride flag and wrote: “We need to STOP COMPROMISING on this LGBT dictatorship and not let them take over our lives!

“Stop accepting this abomination that the government is forcing us to submit to these mentally disordered tyrants!

“True followers of Christ SHOULD NOT and NEVER TOLERATE this stupid indoctrination of LGBT agenda in marriage or in our own businesses especially to any form of mental and personality disorders like narcissism, sociopaths, and psychopaths!

“So anybody on Gab would have the courage to post this photo on their Gab page (or Twitter)?

“Who has the courage to post this and feel no shame of it!?

“Don’t be a coward!! STAND UP COWARD!!!! I like women not men,”

“America must repent for a lot of things we allow; abortion/baby killing, sexual immortality, pornography, same-sex marriages, LGBTQP/pedophilia, freemasonry, religiosity, politics, wars, colonialism, the federal reserve,’ he wrote in a similar post.

“We allow the Federal Reserve to make a profit off of these abominations, we allow the Judicial supremacist groups to make decisions for us and we don’t notice it. There is no political solution. We must repent and accept Christ in our hearts. Share this to others, please!’”

Another post from Aug. 5 referenced LGBTQ people and read: ‘Even though this f***** doesn’t like to be labeled as LGBTQP, he is still a f***** and we should allow f***** in our society anyway even if they don’t to be called these mentally ill pronouns,” Ikeguchi wrote on a video by Amal Ekpunobi that states why he doesn’t like the label.

“Homosexuals still at any form should be illegal,” Ikeguchi noted.

Authorities say they are investigating the case as a hate crime and checking for the involvement of outside groups although there is no evidence of that at this time.

“From a preliminary standpoint, it looks like the suspect acted alone, but we want to be sure that that’s the case, and there are no hate groups or anything else associated to this,” said Sheriff Dicus.

“That’s why this is still an ongoing investigation.”

Authorities also said they had struggled to initially identify Ikeguchi because he carried no ID and his gun was unregistered.

“We believe he has no firearms registered to him in the state of California,” said Rodriguez. “Based on the investigation thus far, we believe Ikeguchi has not applied for a CCW permit in California.”

Laura Ann Carleton, 66, was described as a beloved community member who loved to all.
