Who is Ricky Thompson? 17-year old Arrested In Connection with Juneteenth Mass Shooting

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at a Juneteenth celebration that left two women dead and injured 14 others.

Ricky Thompson III, 17, of Manor, was arrested around 7:30 a.m. Thursday by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

At a press conference, Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said investigations continue into the incident.

“We know Ricky Thompson was not the only shooter at this event,” Banks said. “We are still looking for other suspects.”

He said that as the investigation progresses the charges against Thompson could be upgraded.

“We have a lot of evidence, a lot of case work to continue to do to make sure that we are getting the justice for these families that they deserve,” Banks said.

“We are going to continue to work hard to make sure that we get a resolve, this case, for the families, the victims and this community.”

The shooting happened Saturday evening at Old Settlers Park during a Juneteenth celebration attended by hundreds of people. Police said the gunfire erupted as a result of an altercation between two groups at the event.

Killed in the shooting were Lyndsey Vicknair, 33, and Angelia Duke, 52, both mothers from the Round Rock area. Fourteen other people suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to area hospitals.
