Who Is Rashid Ali Bynum?

Rashid Ali Bynum of Virginia was arrested Tuesday, May 30th 2023 and charged with the murder of New Jersey councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour.

Dwumfour was the wife of Eze Kings, a Nigerian pastor, who was brutally shot and killed on February 1st in Sayreville.

After a tough four months of investigating, police finally had their break and arrested Rashid Ali Bynum.

Rashid Ali Bynum is a 28-year-old American arrested for the murder of Ghanaian-American New Jersey councilwoman, Eunice Dwumfour.

Police arrested Bynum on Tuesday, May 30th 2023 as the chief suspect in the councilwoman’s murder. He has been charged with first-degree murder and faces a separate firearms charge.

Bynum resides in Portsmouth, Virginia, but was seized in a home outside Chesapeake City. State and federal authorities seized him at about 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

The suspect is believed to be a member of the Fire Congress Fellowship, a church affiliated with Champions Royal Assembly, the megachurch ran by Eze Kings, a Nigerian pastor and husband of Eunice Dwumfour.

Dwumfour was a leader in the Champions Royal Assembly annd was studying to be a pastor. Bynum’s number was found listed as a contact in her phone by the initials ‘FCF’ – Fire Congress Fellowship. Dwumfour is believed to have attended that church growing up in Newark.

According to police, Security footage captured Rashid Ali Bynum as he fled the scene of his crime in February when he shot over 10 bullets into Dwumfour’s car.

The councilwoman was shot before she could put her car in park. The bullets caused her to slump her onto her steering wheel and she rolled down a residential street unconscious, crashing into parked cars.

Her daughter was reportedly waiting for her mom inside their home when shots rang out.

Cops said they used location data from Rashid Ali Bynum’s phone to tie him to the crime. It allegedly showed him driving from Virginia to New Jersey, and then back south immediately after the shooting.

Bynum’s phone also passed through toll readers simultaneously with a white Hyundai Elantra—a make neighbors spotted “suspiciously parked” on the evening of Bynum’s murder, cops said.

Said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone during a press conference: “The murder has shaken the community, and no arrest will bring back the late councilwoman. However, I do trust that justice will be found through the criminal justice process.”

Ciccone added that authorities placed Bynum’s cellphone and his white Hyundai Elantra near the murder scene that day. His appearance also matched descriptions gleaned from eyewitness statements and nearby surveillance videos, she said.

Bynum allegedly searched the internet for information about Dwumfour’s church, the town in which she lived and which magazines were compatible with a specific handgun. A handgun was found at the Virginia address where he was arrested.

Bynum is awaitng extradition to New Jersey and upon arrival, will be held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional facility while he waits for a pre-trial detention hearing in the state Superior Court.

Eunice Dwumfour

Eunice Dwumfour was a Republican councilwoman who served the Borough of Sayreville since November 2021, when she ousted the sitting Democrat in a surprising election win.

She was not up for re-election in 2024.

Dwumfour married Eze Kings, a Nigerian preacher in November 2022. She was a preacher for King’s church.

She was shot to death in February 2023 in front of her home. Eunice was spotted speaking to the gunman just before he shot her 12 times whilst behind the wheel of her car.

The FBI are assisting local police in the search for the murderer.

Sayreville’s Mayor, Victoria Kilpatrick, mourned her loss and issued a statement on Thursday, February 2, 2023, stating: “Eunice was a dedicated member of our borough council who was truly committed to serve our residents. The fact she was taken from us by this despicable criminal act makes this incident all the more horrifying.”

Initially, no suspect had been caught. The authorities reached out to Dwumfour’s husband’s church in an effort to understand the councilperson’s involvement with it.

In addition, they have reportedly been investigating into all her relationships, both personal as well as professional. Aside from that, authorities were also questioning whether the crime was racially motivated.

Eventually, suspect Rashid Ali Bynum was arrested in May 2023 for the murder. Location data on his phone and his car implicated him and he was charged with first degree murder.

Dwumfour’s father, Prince, remarked that the family is fully cooperating with law enforcement officials but refused to divulge anything about the investigation.

The Republican councilwoman was the oldest of five children in a Ghanaian family. She leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.

Dwumfour, who relatives said married her husband in November, was elected to her first term in Nov. 2021. She had reportedly lived in the Middlesex County area for about five years.

Eze Kings, Dwumfour’s husband, is a Nigerian-based pastor.

According to his Facebook profile, Kings was an alumnus of the University of Abuja where he enrolled in 2018. He presumably completed end of last year.

Despite their marriage, Eunice Dwumfour continued living in New Jersey with her 12-year-old daughter.

Rashid Ali Bynum Fire Congress Fellowship

Fire Congress Fellowship is a church based in New Jersey believed to have been the church of alleged murdered, Rashid Ali Bynum.

According to online records, the church exists to “organize bible study class. To preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in word and in deed, through evangelism ministry. To operate outreach program to benefit the sick, the poor and the elderly in our community. Inhouse teachings ministry fellowship with the congregation Daily weekly studies teachings ministries to learn teach and spread the Word of God. Ministry expenses related to the teachings and spreading of Gods word. To train Gods children for work with God in ministry.”

Slain New Jersey councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour attended the church growing up. She knew her would be murderer, Rashid Ali Bynum from that church as his name was found saved on her phone after her death with the attached initials FCF – for Fire Congress Fellowship.

Fire Congress Fellowship, which both Euncie Dwumfour and Rashid Ali Bynum attended, was affiliated to Champions Royal Assembly.

Champions Royal Assembly was the church owned by Nigerian pastor Eze Kings, who married Dwumfour in 2022.
