Who Is Dr. Kamal Ranadive?
Dr Kamal Samarath, popularly known as Dr Kamal Ranadive, was a renowned Indian cell biologist.
She was best known for her significant contribution to cancer research during her lifetime.
She also had a lifetime devotion to creatng a more equal society through science and education.
Why Is Google honouring Kamal Ranadive
On Monday, November 8th 2021, Google dedicated a doodle to the renowned doctor.

November 8th 2021 was the 104th birth anniversary of the late doctor.
A doodle was specially designed for her by India-based guest artiste Ibrahim Rayintakath.
The doodle showed Dr. Ranadive with a microscope.
Biography of Dr. Kamal Ranadive
Born Kamal Samarath, she arrived on this planet on November 8th , 1917 in Pune, India
.Her family pushed her to a path in medical education but she snubbed them because she had more interest in biology.
She completed her doctoral thesis in cytology in 1949 at the Indian Cancer Research Centre (ICRC).
The late doctor was working at the centre as a researcher at the time.
She completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States.
Dr. Ranadive returned to Mumbai after completing her fellowship.
One of her major achievements was establishing India’s first culture laboratory at the ICRC in Mumbai.
She was a pioneer in animal modelling of cancer development.
She studied Mycobacterium leprae, the bacteria that causes leprosy.
Her stunning work helped in developing a vaccine for the condition.
Dr. Ranadive was one of the first researchers in India to propose a link between breast cancer and heredity.
In 1973, Ranadive and 11 fellow doctors founded the Indian Women Scientists Association (IWSA).
It’s quite obvious the major impact she had in Indian medicine which led to her dedicated doodle being launched today.
