The shooting happened in the parking lot around 10:30 pm Saturday after the fair was closed for the evening and a lot of people, including kids, were leaving for the night.

“Out of nowhere as we were walking to the cars you just hear a gunshot and a swarm of police came in,” witness Anthony Few told WESH 2.

Few said he was at the fair Saturday night, and as he was trying to go home, the gunfire started.

“As soon as we got to right there, they’re screaming at us, telling us to get out of the way and ambulance and fire trucks coming in with 20 police trucks right behind it,” Few said.

Others revealed there there were multiple fights and officers had to chase down groups of people.

A family who had attended the fair told Fox 35 Orlando what happened.

“We heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and everybody started running,” said Alfred Gaines who witnessed the shooting.

“To have my whole family laughing together, we enjoyed ourselves and then to end the night with that. Oh, our hearts were broken,” said Sheena Gaines.

“They had already made it to their car. And when I tell you, I just thank God. I’m just so grateful. But at the same time, I was so hurt to hear that scream, to hear the mother screaming like she was literally screaming for help, help, help,” she added.

Their daughter Ayleena grabbed her cousin and took cover behind a car.

“I just thought about grabbing my cousin because I didn’t want her to get hurt,” said Ayleena Gaines. “We hid behind a car and all I could see was a lady just drop, and she was slumped over from the gunshots.”

“We have a hefty security presence between Orlando P.D., other agencies, our internal security, two internal security companies,” said Michael Tipton, the President of the Central Florida Fair.

“We hope to see people out and enjoying the fair. And, this is an isolated incident that seems to have been tragic, certainly, but we don’t anticipate anything like that to occur again.”

Central Florida Fair

The annual Central Florida Fair returned for its 112th year and runs from February 29 through March 10, 2024!

It promised a “midway featuring rides, games, and food, along with live music and entertainment, animals, livestock exhibitions and competitive exhibits, and so much more,”

“Come celebrate the community and make lifelong memories!” the fair promised.

Central Florida is a region of the U.S. state of Florida.

Different sources give different definitions for the region, but as its name implies it is usually said to comprise the central part of the state, including the Tampa Bay area and the Greater Orlando area, though in recent times the Tampa Bay area has often been described as its own region, with “central Florida” becoming more synonymous with the Orlando area (most notably, this is what the local news channels in each respective metro area call their region).

It is one of Florida’s three directional regions, along with north Florida and south Florida.

Under the previously mentioned “usual” definition, it includes the following 13 counties: Brevard, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia.

Sometimes Ocala, which is in Marion County, was included. Although Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas are also considered to be the Tampa Bay area.
